In a way I’m glad that Trump happened. Only a severe event like the rise of authoritarianism in a previously libertarian land can make the majority of the public understand that just because they claim leadership, does not warrant undying loyalty.

If what they say threatens your way of life, you can oppose it. Fight it. If what they demand of you gets you drafted to kill or be killed with months of discomfort, you do not have to do it just because they say. If the leaders of the land you occupy decree something is illegal, according to their laws, and that law violates basic human rights and morals, you are a conscious individual with autonomy and you have the ability to choose.

This is very simple knowledge, however authoritarian states drill it out of the people.

    Congress, you work for us!

They literally don’t, though. They’re employees of the party. And the party is contracted by its mega-donors and future private sector lobbying clients.

Liberal democracy is an illusion of choice. You’re shoved into a gerrymandered district, pumped full of hateful ideologically brain-poison such that you hate everyone outside your partisan unit, told to vote the party line or get blamed for an implosion in the standard of living, and then ignored until the next election cycle.

Then, every two years, we get a bunch of voters with Buyers Remorse after the incoming Congress implements a policy of payouts to the corporate sponsors. Occasionally, we’ll see the winning party brutalize members of the losing party. But that’s the only real “reward” for being on the winning team - watching the schlubs in the opposition get their faces shoved into the shit.

This is true regardless of who is in power. Unfortunately they buy media and crush independent voices - mostly. And people love their personal flavor of propaganda, so both wings always have some power. Don’t let oligarchs take away your right to bear arms. You might need them.

I think at this point … Americans you’re on your own.

If you wait for things to change, things will only get worse.

Get off your ass and start governing whatever section of the country you’re in … I wouldn’t expect any help from anyone, as a matter of fact, your national government will probably hinder or stop whatever it is you’re trying to do for yourselves … you’ve got clowns and charlatans pretending they’re managing your national government.
