I think it’s pretty obvious what the difference is between literal toddlers getting to vote (read: parents getting multiple votes) and black people/women getting to vote. I’m not arguing for meritocracy or even what the voting age should be. I’m arguing against the idea that there should be no minimum voting age.
That is just a very stupid idea. The best thing for all of us everywhere is for the most rational and well-informed people to vote. The fact that everyone gets a vote is unfortunate for all of us because that includes voters who vote against the public interest, but it is necessary for a free democracy. Children and even teenagers have simply not had enough time on this earth to make an informed decision. Even if you want to make the argument that some are informed enough, they are far, FAR fewer than in the adult populace. You do not want to broaden that window.
The alternative being…? What, third party candidates? Are you kidding? The only alternative to “blue no matter who” is more “red” and as you can see, there is literally zero support from “red” whereas there’s at least a substantial fraction from “blue.”
I don’t think many people who said “blue no matter who” are actually very surprised by this, because the phrase is not coming from die hard supporters, it’s coming from anyone with basic logic skills.
Nothing is black and white. Bernie may be a geezer, but he has consistently good policy positions for his entire career, and has more integrity than the rest of the senate combined.

A textual prompt is stimulus for an LLM in almost exactly the same way that a verbal prompt is stimulus for your language center, and your language center alone is not capable of conscious thought, nor is it plastic over the course of that single stimulus response; it has static “weights” as well when computing its response. The language system is just one system out of many interacting ones that lead to conscious thought. There’s no magic here making consciousness happen in the human brain but not on silicon. It will emerge as the systems we build grow more complex.
This is a great point that I haven’t heard before, and it seems intuitively correct. Considering overall economic mobility has gotten worse over the decades, I suppose one way you could validate this is by looking at the stats for economic mobility differentiated by… academic success? Measured IQ? Skill acquisition? None of those are good isolated indicators but maybe there’s a good measure where you can say “economic mobility increased for skilled people over time, but decreased for less-skilled people over the same time period.”

IMO, the average person not embracing the fediverse has much less to do with any flaws in the fediverse (these do exist, don’t get me wrong) and much more to do with inertia, the network effect, and just lack of knowledge or fucks to give about privacy and open platforms.
It’s also probably hugely impacted by a lack of advertisement and corporate backing. That’s just the way it goes.
