Makeshift@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the hardest thing you had to come to terms with?61·1 month agoThat I was being complacent to support animal cruelty just because I liked egg salad and cream cheese.
I was vegetarian for 7 years. I thought that only obvious things like meat and leather involved animal cruelty.
I was very wrong. And when people showed me I was wrong, I took a good while to process it. “But the cow needs to be alive for milk. But the chicken needs to be alive for eggs. Surely it’s not THAT bad”.
It’s a lot worse than that bad. Once it fully got through my skull just what kind of cruel practices were involved, not by choice l, but by industry NECESSITY, with the animal products that felt safe, I broke down crying while I was trying to reconcile the fact that I was letting my taste buds drive me to support terrible things.
I did finally quit. These days I don’t really miss much, food wise. And life lesson wise, it helps enable me to be a less unethical consumer. A store/product is involved with something morally terrible, like donating a lot of money to fascism? Welp, bye! No more money for you from me!

Figuring out where to get random goods while ditching Target, Walmart, AND Best Buy is going to force me to learn things for sure.

Teach him a lesson that the US is refusing to teach him.

This is why I eat ingredients.
If ingredient won’t poison me, it is food.
I knew this screen looked familiar. Thanks for making it not bug me for the next week!

Looks like I die playing an old Pokémon game. Nostalgia must hit.

I’d love to say I’m a Canadian resident instead of a United Corporations of America resident. Especially without needing to move more North where it’s colder!
Makeshift@sh.itjust.worksto World News@lemmy.world•Canada 'will stand up to a bully', says Mark CarneyEnglish33·3 months agoThere are plenty of people in the US cheering for harsh retaliation, too. Despite being directly harmed by it.
This man is going out of his way to hurt everyone he can regardless, and everyone who can do anything here is just sitting down, shutting up, and obeying in advance.
I am glad that other countries are ready and willing to to hit this bully back. Seems like the best hope we have is from people on the outside.

I do not respect Insurrectionist Trump. I’d rather the United Corporations of America become Mexican territory right now.
Makeshift@sh.itjust.worksto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Sure hope my landlord *loves* pizza4·3 months agoI wear a vest often. The point for me is pockets. Lots of pockets.
My normal pants are pocketless and shirts don’t come with anything beyond a tiny little thing that can’t hold a pen well. The vest isn’t too hot for indoors, helps insulate more outdoors, and has huge pockets.
I have had multiple comments that I likely have ADHD. One asked if I had something else common I forget what.
My answer is maybe. I don’t exactly go to the doctor. I know I should, but I’m generally healthy and don’t want to spend $200 every couple months to be told what I already know.
And it really bothers me when people claim something because they think the label is cool/trendy/some sort of thing to be proud of. Man I didn’t do anything but be born. Feels like something to be neutral of when you’re born with it. I didn’t earn anything. I take no meds. I have no diagnosis. Who am I to claim I have something when I’m undiagnosed and could end up just adding to a trend of claiming something just because it grants me bragging rights or something? I want people who need help to be able to get help, not be drowned out by undiagnosed people like me claiming they have something making it harder to see who actually needs help and who want to be in the cool club.
I function fine with just ibuprofen now and then. So thanks in advance to anyone who’d say to go get diagnosed, but I’m in the United Corporations of America. I’ll stick with my on the shelf pain drug, caffeine, and copium. Helps me pay for other things easier.
I rambled. Good meme. Got me thinking again.
Makeshift@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would you rate Donald Trump's *actual* chances of getting more than two full terms as U.S. president?27·3 months agoAfter all we just witnessed?
Four years stalling courts and avoiding punishment for insurrection, theft of classified documents, etc.
Getting legal permission to break any law he pleases.
Convincing even democrats that tge constitution, specifically the Fourteenth amendment, means nothing and isn’t worth acting on.
Openly planning the worst possible cabinet.
Not having any investigation or action on votes from targeted minorities get Jim Crow’d away.
No recounts when suspicious vote trends are spotted.
Survival of an assassination attempt.
… Yeah I’m going high. 70% chance minumum if he wants to. He could just order a public hit on the next in line as a presidential act. Clearly no one will stop him.
There should not BE a timeline where he succeeded the second time. The fact that there is implies he can do literally anything he wants.
Modern United States residents across political spectrums all agree that we should allow billionaires to do anything they want, and not let silly laws or constitutions get in the way of that.
Except some dude named Luigi.
Makeshift@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Say I have US$10,000. What's the best use of that money if my goal is to stop climate change?11·4 months agoWhile this isn’t a suggestion, just want to say don’t let other people saying one person doesn’t make a difference discourage you from doing what you can anyway.
“What is any ocean but a multitude of drops”? If a million people each don’t bother because they alone don’t make a difference?
Similar to the Starfish Story.
Actual suggestions:
- Aid education. Lots of illiterate youth is going to be a problem when they can’t even read to research on their own.
- Encourage increasing plant-based agriculture and the reduction of animal agriculture. Animal agriculture is terrible for the environment, and ironically the “green” version of it is even worse for the environment than factory farming if it were done to scale with the same product output. (Hunting is also not good to promote as an alternative, because if we hunted as much as we eat we would absolutely cause mass extinction very fast.)
I’ll be doing what I do every day. Enjoy myself and pamper the kittyat day, play with online friends and pamper the kitty at night.
Having a companion animal helps. Sorry for the loss of your dog. Is it too soon to bring in another companion?

Yes I am sure the criminal who already ignores courts amd suffers no tangible consequences for it will obey a ruling he does not like.
