World News@lemmy.world•Andrew Tate ‘raped and strangled us’ - women tell BBCEnglish
2·1 year agoThis is the pick yourself up by your bootstraps version of raising a child. You can’t seriously expect a 12 year old to have enough wisdom and initiative to do this? Why do we have this unrealistic expectation that men are super capable and just choose to be failures? It’s the same system that fails everybody else, that’s also failing them

91·1 year agoI’m honestly not sure if this is a better outcome than him being dead. I think the new even more paranoid batshit Trump is doing way more damage than his literal death would have

26·1 year agoI can understand that the elderly aren’t as physically capable as the newer generation, so in a tribal scenario the place they would provide the most value is as teachers and mentors.
The weird part is why this is limited to women, and “whole purpose” qualifier seems extreme? And wtf are the elderly men doing in this scenario?!
Also, I’m not sure if republicans have noticed, but we have advanced past the stone age

World News@lemmy.world•She wanted a divorce so her father hacked her legs with an axe: how Pakistan fails womenEnglish
51·1 year agoI think you’re taking it too literally, the books have many statements that are contradictory. It’s about the general message. In general, the bible is very pro-children, it has passages where God literally tells people he made them in the womb himself. And funnily enough, modern highly Christian nations have these ideals, and takes them to extremes.
The Qur’an has a lot of violent punishment, which is then in a lot of cases moderated in modern Islamic countries. Saudi Arabia for example, may only cut off one hand for thievery, or none if the crime is light enough. It sets precedent and normalises these actions

104·1 year agoYes, but there are multiple references to cutting off hands/feet. It’s hardly setting a good example.
We don’t try to excuse Christianity and their god awful abortion takes as local culture

325·1 year agoI don’t understand why we give Islam a pass, a lot of the religion is based on the same barbaric Christian beliefs that we’re all too happy to very rightly call out and shit on. I’d even say the Qur’an is worse than the Christian bible in many ways, given the war heavy times it was written in.
We obviously need to be careful of equating Muslim with brown, and I get that a lot of people are just racist and don’t have a more in-depth understanding of the actual religion. But the religion of Islam itself doesn’t just deserve a free pass because of that

So CrowdStrike shouldn’t allow real time threat protection? That’s what caused the issue. It needs to update its threat library to do deal with any day 1 attacks. It’s one of the main reasons it’s used
Forced updates of an optional corporate anti-virus designed to immediately detect and distribute information on threats should be illegal?
Or is this just an unrelated comment?
I don’t understand how so many people are taking “Program with level 0 access shipped faulty code that caused the OS to refuse to boot until a single file is removed” as “Windows bad lmao”. Not that I disagree with Windows bad, just the over liberal application and acting like this is some sort of Linux win.
Give me kernel level access and I can make anything refuse to boot

World News@lemmy.ml•Labour wins majority in UK General Elections as Tories lose two-thirds of seatsEnglish
413·1 year agoI get what a lot of you guys are saying about Starmer and the Labour government not being as left wing as Corbyn. I would also like someone who would use this majority to implement some really hardcore leftist policies.
But please can we just take a step back and look at what he wants to do:
-
Massive amounts of NHS funding
-
Nationalised green energy
-
Tax private schools
-
Allow regulators to hit company executives with criminal charges
-
Nationalise the railways
-
Increase the minimum wage to a living wage
-
Free school meals
I don’t know about you, but that seems at the very least, left of center. Sure, he’s not making drastic sweeping changes right off the bat. But this country needs an era of stability, whilst we make small but consistent steps in the right direction, and that’s what Starmer will give us

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Top post in the conservative subreddit: Being unable to work at a "woke" companyEnglish
431·1 year agoThe original 20 minute video in the article makes it clear he’s talking about job roles, and mentions writers a few times (admittedly not close enough to draw an 100% certain link). I don’t think it’s enough to discredit this just based on the assumption that he’s talking about actors or that there isn’t enough context. Obviously it’s vague enough that we can’t draw any solid conclusions, so I agree with you there.
The main reason I think this is bullshit is that the guy’s testimony isn’t credible for two main reasons:
- The guy was recently passed up for promotion, and blames it on being white and male
- The interviewer is posing as a romantically interested date and asking plenty of leading questions, the guy is at least partially telling her what she wants to hear
These two points, regardless of how true his story is, give him an ulterior motive for embellishing the story and exaggerating facts, which ultimately means we can’t trust this.
I’d like to see a full investigation, as with any accusation of discrimination. But we all know that when nothing turns up, it wouldn’t shut the right wingers up

Although the more I think about it, it’s hard not to see it as a not so subtle call for ideological purity. It’s certainly going to rally some people
