Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What gaming community has thin skin to where they can't handle criticism of said game?English
15·1 year agoCalling someone an idiot after having your opinion refuted in a thread about people having thin skin is either some high level satire or proof you have thin skin
I suppose it could be some third thing, but I don’t want to make baseless assumptions

World News@lemmy.world•Elon Musk urges King Charles to dissolve Parliament—What can UK monarch do?English
16·1 year agoSince this is advice given to a monarch by a person who otherwise has no impact on the rich and powerful, I’d argue you could call this a case of Jester’s Privilege
We should bring that back. If nothing I do matters, then nothing I say matters, right?

93·1 year agoAnybody have any insight into what a “Market People Lead” is?
It sounds closer to an office job, but I can’t imagine wearing a nametag at HQ either
Im leaning towards it being word salad that sounds important, so when people ask to speak to the manager they feel like they’re getting someone above their pay grade

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you could describe any music genre as a specific food, what music genre would it be, what food would it be, and why?English
14·1 year agoMetal is like cereal. There’s a thousand varieties, its marketing has vibrant characters, and everyone has their favorite style

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does the colour of an appliance like smartphones matter in the aspect of efficiency or use?English
243·1 year agoThis is a reference to Warhammer 40k, a tabletop gaming / book / video game franchise
The Orkz in the setting paint their war trucks red because they believe it makes them go faster. And it does, in fact, make them go faster

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What will always be cringe-inducing to you?English
25·2 years agoCounterpoint: if people feel like they can’t talk about these things then they’ll never talk about them and the condition often worsens.
I also feel pretty powerless to help in a meaningful way. But I’m not going to shun someone who’s struggling either

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did you ever celebrate "take your kid to work" day? What was it like?English
13·2 years agoI’ve done a couple tours myself, it’s no picnic
I feel it’s one of those jobs that everyone should do at some point in their life. That or customer / food service. Either exposes you to some of the rudest, most entitled people, and if everyone had that exposure I feel there’d be more empathy to go around
I tell you though, hearing people yell at your mom all day is great motivation to stay in school to find a better job

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did you ever celebrate "take your kid to work" day? What was it like?English
241·2 years agoI was the kid, mom was working in a call center
I learned that people suck, and I still hate talking on the phone.
I also learned sudoku because you have to do something between calls.

Can you tell me more about gall fruit? I’ve never heard of it, but I guess it must be good for cats if you put it in their toys

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you dislike when someone laughs over their own joke? If yes, why?English
9·2 years agoI feel like “don’t laugh at your own jokes” is a piece of ancient wisdom from the entertainment industry.
Like, if you’re a performer and you’re laughing so hard that you can’t get the punchline out, then it prevents people from actually hearing the joke.
When you consider that performers in traditional media have a limited time slot to work in, then taking a break to laugh could be considered a waste or unprofessional.
I don’t think that long-format content has the same problem. If you’re making an online video or a podcast then you’re not limited by time. Authenticity is more important than fitting into a five minute set

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Millenials and Zoomers experience decision fatigue differently (And what it means for Lemmy)English
18·2 years agoYeah, I’m not sure this is the generational thing that the author is trying to make it out to be. It seems to me like one of those things that leans on personal preference.
The author’s sample for the behavior of generations is a few anecdotes from personal friends. How many friends does a person have, 3, or 30, or 300? That means n is pretty small when there’s something like 3 billion mellenials
God, that’s a mood and a half.
When my depression advanced, I was hopeful that not having feelings would mean not being sad anymore. I was disappointed, turns out feeling something is better than feeling nothing. Talk about a devil’s bargain.
Good luck out there, stranger. Tomorrow’s another day

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you solve/deal with procrastination?English
3·2 years agoOh hey, that’s awesome! I’m glad someone found something I said helpful 😃
I don’t ever want to oversell a self-help book because their usefulness really depends on the person reading it, but honestly this one has been life changing for me too.
When I was a teenager I felt this way. I didn’t ask to be here, and so far life has sucked pretty hard.
My stance has softened as I’ve aged. I still wish I’d never been born, mind you, but I don’t blame my parents for having kids. They just did what came naturally for them.
You can’t consent to being born, and that upset me a lot. But it’s not like they could have asked my permission anyway. Might as well make the most of the situation.
