    Maybe for rich countries. Sudan’s GDP is $44.69 billion as of 2026. $50 million is more than 1% of its GDP. That’s a lot more than nothing.

    Can you imagine some country forgiving France a debt 1% of its GDP? That’d be over $30 billion.

        True, but I think it’s more important to look at the smaller player here. It’s like a giant company sending you something free of charge just because. It’s nothing for them, but still a very nice gesture.

        Also, yeah, the math was critically wrong. I’m aware.

        Very true. It’s 0.01% and not 1%. My bad. Still not an insignificant sum of money for a poorer country.
