They did NOT say no to war, they said no to $5/gallon gas.
The American oil and gas industry is heavily subsidize by the government. So we get an artificially lower price of gas and oil then most places in the world. However our pool companies will still export and use the market price to increase gas prices. The entire system is rigged to keep us addicted to oil. https://www.americanprogress.org/article/5-hidden-ways-the-government-rigs-the-market-in-favor-of-fossil-fuels/
Anyone that says we can’t switch to other modes of energy, we absolutely could. It just requires us to put the same amount of subsidies we already give oil and gas to other industries instead, but that would hurt shareholders of oil companies! We care very much about those shareholders.
Still blows my mind that Americans are raging over fuel prices that would essentially be seen as heavy discount in Europe. How the hell is your gas so cheap that below average price seems extreme to you?
It’s only “cheaper” because we pay for roads through other taxes as well. The big difference is taxes, which we pay very little of at the pump
We have a strategic oil reserve and our supplier isn’t at war with the nation that the pipeline it comes through sits in. In fact we are well aware that the amount of oil we get from the middle east is paltry at best, and that the increase of our prices are purely the oil companies assfucking us over the fact they can’t ship it everywhere else to make profits. (that third mega yacht won’t buy itself after all!)
The SPR is irrelevant. Oil is a global commodity with minimal difference in price across the globe
That’s how basic economics works. Oil is a global market far more complicated than you understand
The US is heavily reliant on oil imports. We have to pay the market rate to keep our refineries running. US oil is largely exported
That seeming contradiction is one tiny piece of the giant puzzle that is the modern oil and gas sector. People spend their entire lives studying a single segment of it
Because we produce a shit ton of oil, it should be cheaper
I sort of wish I didn’t believe this but I’ve seen how they talk about the war.
Meanwhile Dem leadership has a much more sensible position on the war: that Trump is doing it wrong.
Who has that position? Can you cite them establishing that position? Even a single member of dem leadership?
It’s the subtext of every public comment made by Schumer criticising the war: Didn’t go through congress, erratic, no exit strategy.
Never a word against the myth-making to justify the war, or that the US shouldn’t be in an offensive war against a country that didn’t attack it.
No, it’s a costly embarrassment, a strategic blunder, an action taken without filling out the prerequisite forms in triplicate.
Going to war (successfully) with Iran has been an unrealised dream of the uniparty for decades.
More accurate.
Sadly, the only war we have any business being in would solve both these problems, BuT RuZzIa HaZ nOoKz!!1 🤪
