i’m seeing some estimates stating ram prices are going to jump 400% by the end of june 2027. major price increases are inbound.
here is some of the information i’m seeing:

- Samsung expects memory shortage to worsen through 2027 and last until 2028
- SK Hynix CEO sees worst memory shortage in 2027, demand to outstrip supply beyond 2030

“post consumer computing”

I mean, I just bought two used systems for under $500 CAD combined, both capable of being used as servers, if I wanted to. I’m more worried about HDD prices, nevermind flash storage. I have no idea when I will be able to afford a 10+ TB HDD in the next couple years, at least.
I got myself a whole new ARM mini pc for 600$ with soldered 64GB of ddr5 RAM. I think of it like a very beefy rpi5 and use it as my homelab server. They were not very popular and selling leftover stock for the same pre-bubble price.

The only thing I cared about was RAM amount cause I have some beefier things I wanted to run (multiple game servers that need 8-16gb ram each etc.) and that was the most affordable option.
Without storage, maybe thats the reason for the cheaper price, but luckily I had some 1tb NVMEs hoarded from the before times.
It has some linux problems, like I couldn’t make the NPU be usable, even though I used the ubuntu image that is supposed to support it, but those issues don’t matter for my usecase
