Amazon != Jeff Bezos. For quite a while now. The current CEO of Amazon is the issue.

And Jeff Bezos is just a piece of shit by nature, as he has not even have to impress investors anymore. He is an ass, because he can.

He’s the executive chairman and largest shareholder.

Amazon still does what he wants. He just doesn’t have to deal with day to day.

        • Jeff Bezos has roughly 884 million shares. The Top 10 shareholders range from 121-750 million shares.
        • Jeff Bezos is the Executive Chair of the Board. The board has no executive power over a corporation. The CEO is the executing position.
        • The board of directors consists of 7 people in total.

This makes me believe he has way less power over such decisions compared to when he was CEO.

Who does the CEO report to?

          The board.

Bezos has the most shares and votes yes or no on the board.

          Bezos has tremendous sway.

That’s not how a board works. The amount of shares don’t matter in the Board of Directors. You can even be there with 0 shares.

Wait who holds 31-192 billion shares? Do you perhaps mean they hold 31-192 billion dollars IN shares? Amazon has 10.8 billion outstanding shares. Bozo’s at ~8% with his ~880 million. Vanguard comes in second with 630 mill and BlackRock third with 450 mill, both of those are mostly just Americans’ 401ks.

Both Vanguard and BlackRock are mostly passive unless something gets really fucked up. They’ll side with Bozo by default as long as they think that won’t cost their funds billions of dollars in lost growth.

This is true, and we also can see how much power investors have versus the board, if you look at the Sam Altman and OpenAI hickup.

So while technically the board picks the CEO, the power lies within the top 10 shareholders. And Bezos is not one of them.

Fair enough. TBH I’ll still blame him for this kind of thing just for hoarding all that wealth, let alone the fact that he created the company in the first place.

I’m not sure THAT bit is what we should blame him for. If you remember, Amazon was originally just a convenient way to order books you might not find anywhere else because they connected you to tens of thousands of publishers.

What they are now is, of course, a different story.

Yes, and that’s something he should be blamed for. Though admittedly he didn’t do that alone either. Current CEO of Amazon was the head of AWS for a long time and is basically the reason the half the Internet runs on AWS, which is way worse than the shopping and delivery part of it
