Their banking sector at least went through reforms following the 2008 crisis. They are required to be less risky in certain ways than they were pre-GFC and have gone through a bunch of stress testing over the years.
Raised “Christian” in the evangelical/born again/southern baptist milieu. Strip mall churches and unaccredited schools with unqualified teachers and Bob Jones text books. Became atheist as soon as I was able to think rationally. The thing that did it for me was the hypocrisy, which became too obvious to ignore.
Can we get a supercut remix?
Yes. Its like sales taxes are going up. Unless something is assembled in the US from parts produced in the US there is now a big increase in taxes that must be paid. Most things people buy in the US will now be taxed significantly and thus cost significantly more.
Effectively, yes. Tariffs are basically just a sales tax. It’s a little more complicated than that but the end result for consumers isn’t really any different.
I looked into it a week or two ago and couldn’t find any definitive evidence. It seems plausible because Musk is well known for being into plastic surgery and IVF, but other than a musician who knows Grimes publicly claiming that Grimes confirmed it to them, I didn’t see anything that looked convincing.
Good catch, those are two very different things being compared as if they are equivalent. I would expect that the number of Canadians who actually want Canada to get annexed by the US is lower than the number who think it is likely.
Doesn’t matter if you’re using a compromised device. Given the number of people in the group chat, that at least some of them were using personal devices, and all of them are high value targets… I wouldn’t be so confident that this chat wasn’t intercepted.
That makes no sense at all though, this would be the dumbest way possible to do that. If you’re going to leak something you don’t include a paper trail of high level people discussing classified information in ways that are neither legal nor secure. And especially to The Atlantic, they would never be the choice if this was intentional for reasons that should be obvious.
One of the driving forces behind this phenomena is that business types value having that reoccurring revenue on the books more than “normal” revenue. If you have two companies with identical revenue but one of them gets it from customers locked in on a subscription, that company will be valued significantly higher. If you’re an exec or a big investor who owns a lot of stock in a company then you’re effectively incentivized to push the company towards that subscription based reoccurring revenue model because it will boost the stock price and make you richer.
Not so fun fact: Ginny Thomas, the wife of US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, helped organize and pay for those buses.

The weird thing is he did get an essay that explained everything published by the NYT after the fact once it blew up in his face. He could have just shared all of that ahead of time instead of blindsiding everyone with his surprise change of heart and at least minimized the anger. You would think an experienced politician like him would know better but for some reason he did it in just about the worst possible way he could have done it.
I have about a bunch of plants that should fruit for the first time this year.
It’s meant to apply pressure. Failing to provide a strong response would mean that Trump is weak. He is both stroking Trumps ego and subtly poking it at the same time.
Until the Russian government gives up on imperial conquest of other nations, yes.
Ok. One of the first ones I remember reading about a few decades ago got a lot of news coverage at the time. In San Diego a bunch of drunk Secret Service agents started a bar fight and beat the shit out of a couple guys. One of the Secret Service agents bit a mans ear off during the fight.
