A couple of years ago I got my wife to finally play Portal and Portal 2 for the first time. Its been long enough she was entirely unaware of any of the memes about the game so she immediately fell in love with the companion cube and cried when she realized she had no choice but to incinerate it, even going so far as trying to find a bug to exploit to bring it with her

When they do you can still play 2009scape! Has up to 5x XP modes in case you want a less grindy experience, a single player mode and a brilliant community

Worth noting that OSRS is really just a fork of RuneScape from around the mid RS2 days, (if I remember correctly it’s based on a full backup someone found of their codebase, so it started as “hey look we found this old version of the game in a box in one of our offices, wanna play?”) and now it contains more new content than original content. Heck way back in the day the idea of a sailing skill was always a silly joke that nobody took seriously, and I’m talking back when Hunter and slayer were being added. Yet here we are.

Banning advertisements to kids is the correct approach. I’ve observed with my own kids, they genuinely don’t yet have the mental faculties to be critical of advertisements. They see something advertised, they want it, simple as that. Their brains aren’t developed enough for content with advertising nor product placement.

Maybe there’s a sweet spot in limiting it to toy ads and ads for other content on the same platform that they’re watching. I’m not sure, I’m not a child psychologist, but kids should not be presented ads for energy drinks/drink supplements (I wish I was kidding but I’ve specifically had to have a conversation with my daughter about why we’re not buying the drink band owned by a certain YouTube celebrity who got himself banned from returning to Japan) nor for restaurants (especially not fast food!) nor for sketchy paid mod launchers for games (fuck you to the like only YouTuber who focuses entirely on Wobbly Life and is constantly advertising that!), nor most of the other things I’ve seen advertised to the kids recently

The way I see it, if my kids start finding ways to circumvent parental controls we should be able to have some frank discussions about what the parental controls would be setup for

I setup my wife’s old Android phone to be super locked down via parental controls. Only approved apps, no installing apps, time limited etc. set it up so my kids can use it on days when we need them to zombify for a bit in the afternoons

Its kinda mind blowing how YouTube Kids is their go to and they don’t move to any other apps until they’ve run out of time on it (family had already let the cat out of the bag about the existence of YouTube so I had to limit rather than block) and we still have had to block a number of concerning channels they kept watching. Its crazy how they’ll just zombify staring at YouTube but then for the age appropriate games they’re so much more engaged and actually seem to have a healthier interaction. Its also sad how some of the content I see the kids watching on YouTube Kids has writing and direction about on par with Disney’s current crop of age appropriate shoes for 3-6 year olds (and from what I’ve seen Nickelodeon isn’t much better right now). My kids primarily watch PBS Kids and a handful of shows we carefully selected on DVD because we want to minimize the brain rot (as well as minimize annoyance for us)

My parents got a young bonded pair of cats from the shelter. One died suddenly of an undiagnosed heart issue, the other refused to accept the next new cat they took in. Right now the plan is that my grandmother’s cats will go live with my parents if they survive until she enters full time nursing care (which at this point the cats are looking like they’ll outlast her despite being an older bonded pair when she adopted them) I’m concerned for what the social hierarchy will look like if/when that happens

Could be 10 people making 50k a year in a shed with a couple of managers making more. Whether that’s a just a warehouse or actually making widgets or some such that’s easily a profitable business with a million or so in revenue. Or just a small shop with a handful of minimum wage employees. Maybe an office cleaning service? Some business models can be perfectly stable with a million or so per year in revenue

You ever do something and realize you actually kinda enjoy it? I have a feeling that’s the case. He was probably already an avid hiker when he started too since that’s a crazy bet to take on without any real prep

So it’s honestly something I’ve been noodling about for a while, which is how to manage a soft landing from the current capitalist system given the overall trend of population decline and how capitalism as it’s currently structured can’t handle a sustained decline like we’ll eventually be looking at.

The best vision I can come up with (and this is US-centric since it’s what I know best of course) is to first expand Medicare to all, next expand SNAP/Foodstamps benefits to all, then expand the housing assistance programs to all. Somewhere in there a universal pension and later on a universal income. This would decouple working class folks’ everyday and long-term needs from the wider economy. Basically eliminate the micro-economy so that the macroeconomy can do whatever it will do without too much pain for everyday people

Something something not all boomers. There’s selfish rich people in every age group. In the case of Boomers they happened to be born at the same time as a ton of other people, so they became the most influencial voting block (and later the wealthiest voting block because of the political influence) but of course many boomers are absolutely struggling financially, getting screwed over by the same ladder pulling that younger folks are getting screwed over them

With the projected population decline, the inflationary effects of creating money in order to pay pensions could actually be beneficial

This is the real consideration, depending on your career so far, such a role might be easier just left off the resume. But they did say it was an internship so they likely have no good career experience to speak for. Personally, I’d aim for purely talking about the experience and just say that “the internship ended”

As someone who just lost one grandparent to dementia and has another entering treatment (and in the process of being moved into a care facility) he definitely has dementia or a similar cognitive decline. If you watch him now when he’s publicly speaking and compare it to his 2016 campaign he’s just not the same person anymore. He’s now seeming to not remember what he was to be speaking about, going on random unexpected tangents, needs to be led around by someone else when anywhere other than the White House (and may also need to be led around within the White House, but that’s not as visible) occasionally walks completely a different direction from where he should be going, and he’s lost his talent for remembering names, mixing people’s names with associations when he speaks (“Tim Apple” of Apple CEO Tim Cook, or “Tim Minnesota” of Tim Walz) or occasionally naming someone who hasn’t held the position in a very long time, looking directly at the solar eclipse while the eclipse glasses were in his hand (or pocket? I can’t remember now) its all really clear dementia behavior. Also the tests he’s described taking, he describes them exactly as coherently and in an extremely similar manner to my grandmother’s descriptions of probably the same tests. She also knew she had an MRI (and named the wrong thing it was for) and kept saying it was tomorrow for a week, which is pretty comparable to how Trump has been talking about his MRIs.

Like, for a normal person in an assisted living facility, I’d say with his mix of ailments he might not even make it until the end of the year, but he has quite frankly the best access to healthcare of anyone in the entire world. We’re going to watch this poor man regress until there’s no sign of him left because his team refuses to publicly admit that their guy is dying. Honestly it feels like elder abuse, letting him act like a toddler on the world stage (which is what dementia does, its like the person regresses in age) instead of publicly announcing his decline and how his team will be reviewing his work and slowly taking over his duties as he becomes less capable, letting him decline not in the spotlight but in privacy. It’ll be an interesting next few years for sure, because I’ll be shocked if he survives to the end of his presidency
