Maybe, but threatening your customers who are buying your exported goods doesn’t seem like a good strategy, and US-based corporations already dominate in the US, so it’s not like they’re helping the US become more powerful unless they’re preparing for WW3.

Domestically, this is what will happen, but those corporations are also multinationals and get a large amount of money from doing business outside the US. What Trump is doing with the sort of threats he’s making to US allies is causing their reputation to plummet abroad along with their revenue. This can only go so far before competitors from EU and China take their spot and they lose all international relevance. Additionally, the tariffs will put them at a disadvantage in the global market compared to corporations outside the US which is further contributing to their loss in revenue. So if Trump’s main interest was in helping those corporations, I doubt he would be doing this.

“The corporations own the government” made sense for a while, but Trump has done enough to hurt said corporations lately that I’m actually starting to question that idea (it’s definitely true for the majority of Democrats though). The only real reason I can think of where it would make sense to do stuff like this is to cause a crisis making it easier to abuse power later on.

Fedora Asahi Remix. Considering how the M1 has no official Linux support, it’s impressive that it runs as well as it does, and they have compatibility hacks to run Steam games and get Widevine to work. There’s still a lot of rough edges however, like no microphone (should be coming out soon though) or fingerprint, aarch64 software support is second class and tends to have more frequent bugs (cough Electron cough) that get ignored by package maintainers and some (even FOSS) software isn’t supported, I don’t think high refresh rate is supported yet, full disk encryption isn’t supported (but there’s blog articles from people who figured out how to set it up), limited distro options, worse power efficiency so gets hot faster (just got a cooling pad to deal with this, get a Pro if you can so you have a fan) and battery life is barely different than what I’ve heard from Framework users so there’s not really much to gain atm. Currently only supports M1 and to a lesser extent M2, and also the fact that you’re dual booting makes the soldered overpriced SSD space even more limiting.

As far as distro support goes, Fedora Workstation is the only distro that has official support. There’s other options with community support but there’s a higher likelihood of stuff being outdated or not packaged (i.e. Arch Linux ARM doesn’t have the same level of community support as normal Arch Linux). I haven’t tried NixOS or Guix System on M1, but I use Nix/Guix on the Fedora install. aarch64 Guix packages keep breaking making it annoying to update and issues tend to be ignored (also certain core packages don’t like the tmpfs 16k page size so you need to make it use /var/tmp instead), aarch64 Nix is a lot better but support is still slow to where Signal is several versions behind and has been broken for weeks despite there being multiple pull requests with fixes, and both Nix/Guix prioritize x86 over aarch64 for builds so it will need to compile a lot of things from source.

Agreed. I got the 16/512 (max specs) M1 Air for a decent price for the performance and battery life, and I currently run Linux on it, but I’m constantly bottlenecking both the RAM and SSD and it sucks that I can’t upgrade it, will probably get a Framework when it dies

Great battery life on macOS, although turns out a lot of it involves software-related optimizations since with Asahi Linux it’s barely better than x86

I used to get a lot of news off Instagram, but lately I’ve noticed that a lot of radical stuff like protests have basically disappeared off my feed, and other people I’ve talked to have said that this is happening with Twitter as well. Now it’s mostly just fear-mongering headlines with no reporting on defensive actions, despite there being tons of protests all over the place in the past few days. The 50501 protests were a lot bigger than I thought they’d be, and the fact that there’s barely any reporting on them is extremely concerning and I think is intentional. Meanwhile I’ve seen an increasing amount of radical stuff pop up on RedNote, like protests and pro-Luigi stuff, while at the same time somehow maintaining a calmer and more unifying vibe (also no ads), so it definitely seems like a better platform (compared to other options that are algorithm-driven) and I’ve been browsing it more instead of Instagram lately. Also, I’m trying to look for ways to connect with more people IRL, which I think is one of the most important things people can do right now to fight the isolating and divisive design of capitalism.
