4·9 months agoMan, this one is loaded. I use variants on the quantum.ogre all the time, and am widely considered to be an excellent dm. It’s not about the ogre, it’s about whether choices have an impact on the story. They can still do that even if minor parts of the set dressing - like whether or not you’ll fight an ogre around the corner because you the DM spent ages prepping that encounter - are relatively constant

25·9 months agoThe best way to write a good story, for me, is to write a story I want to read. That seems obvious but bear with me. If I plan out all the details, it’s like someone spoiled the book for me, I just can’t get into it. I have to create characters I’m interested, plunk them in a situation, and just start seeing what happens. I dont fret the little details unless they start getting me into a place I’m not enjoying. Later on I go back to the early parts and tie them together with whatever happened. Done this way, writing a story feels like reading a story, one that is specifically tailored to your own interests (and that none of your friends have read, so they can’t talk to you about it)

6·9 months agoEh. to some degree, enshittification is going to happen as more people come in, because more people = more shitty people. If we want to have the good niche communities that are IMO the only excellent thing about reddit, we’ll have to put up with the fact that that also means a bunch of annoying people use the service.
At least Lemmy has far, far better tools for dealing with them.

8·9 months agoI don’t think they’re panicking, this is how they always behave. Trump is saying a moronic thing again to draw attention from the actual important authoritarian shift onto “what stupid meaningless shit did he say”. It’s the same fucking playbook every time.
IMO it’s a mixed blessing and curse. A lot of them are uninteresting, but the top comments are usually good for a quick laugh.

11·9 months agoYes, although it should be noted that one of the trickier parts of ADHD is most people have at least some traits of it, especially when they’re younger. It’s why our memes are so relatable.
Still get checked if you’re thinking it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What Pseudoscience do you Believe?English
12·10 months agoI kind of a little bit believe that dreams have some weird predictive ability. The scientist in me knows it’s likely a mix of confirmation bias and information synthesis, but like… my family has a pretty strong history of dreaming about deaths and births a week or two prior to pregnancy announcements and right before/after deaths. My mom has had several dreams where a loved one has come and chatted with her in a dream and said goodbye, then later that day we learn they passed, for example. It’s happened enough that I have a lot of trouble brushing it off. I’ve had a similar dream myself and it felt quite different from a normal sleep dream. That one was less paranormalish though, it was a friend who died a few years ago and showed up to give me some life advice. Just… hit me in a specific, indescribable way (it was good advice too).
Can’t explain it. Don’t really believe it’s paranormal I guess, but I also don’t disbelieve.

42·10 months agoI expected this to be downvoted a lot because whatever paid-for group is promoting inner-class violence wouldn’t want the ideologies they’re promoting to be challenged.
Oh get a life. It’s downvoted because you’re being disingenous and can’t believe anyone would find that distasteful, you twit. Who would hire people to downvote stuff like this on lemmy of all places? We’ll do it for free, especially if you add edits like that.

2·10 months agoand this way we’re also not throwing value at a hostile american corporation.
It’s a ton of the media really, not ‘just enough’ afaict. So much reporting from all the US mainstream media treats everything he says with kid gloves. If he invaded canada tomorrow the headline on CNN would be something like “US military deployed in proactive peacekeeping mission to the north”.
