I suppose it’s the fault of the constituents for continuing to vote the same person in over and over again. Or is it that you don’t have any other choices?

How TF do you have a 29 year incumbent??

I’m on Lemmy because I’m anti capitalist and generally support progressive policies such as circular economic practices and sustainability. I’m against AI because it goes against everything I mentioned. The gains aren’t worth the cost.

I visited the US 3 years ago and tipping was a bloody pain in the bum. It added probably 20min to our meal as the waiters took a while to get change. Further, asking every 15 minutes how our meal was going was quite exhausting; mainly because we knew it was performative for more tips. We tipped 20% each time but it’s really, really frustrating not knowing the price up front.
Back home, I’m used to paying up front and then leaving as soon as we’re done. Waiters leave you alone, unless you’re a regular, and ask you how the meal was at the till if you pay after.
Only works if you have a functional and fair justice system (which you don’t).
And that’s why it’s genius

The American Civil war never ended, did it?

Fucken oath! American capitalism allowed him to build the massive media empire that he has now. Couldn’t have done it from here.

Troll 2…?
Wealthiest country in the world, everyone.

You’ve clearly never tried to fix anything at least within the last decade.
When things are glued and there are no exposed screws, this means that you can’t replace parts and it means that in order to get inside to see what broke, you need to break it open very carefully. This means that in most cases, they break beyond repair and force you to buy a new one.
If you can break it open carefully, because everything is glued in (or in some cases just punched in during manufacture), you can’t replace anything because there’s nothing you can mount the new part to.
Phones are not appliances; they’re electronic devices and are much more complicated BUT should be repairable, as they used to be back in the 90s.
And have you seen the inside of a device that’s glued in? It is definitely NOT water tight. The glue is hard and cracks, and the purpose of the glue is not for IP, but to just keep the part in place and save 2c on each screw.
But I digress… Check out IFixit. Hopefully after going through some points on what the benefits are for right to repair, you’ll change your stance on this.

Well, they worked forever because you could get them fixed. They will break down but you could repair them yourself or get it repaired. Unsure about whitegoods, but small appliances these days are expected to end up in landfill; no exposed screws and everything is glued in.

The cost keeps increasing. That’s hilarious.
But of course he was building a bunker. There’s literally no surprises there. It’ll be the new den of rape for sure.

I hope this is the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come.
Seize your country back!!
The first step is always the hardest after decades of oppression and misinformation!

Is this because of AUKUS?

Most standard street lighting comes in 4000K for some reason. It’s completely dumb. I’ve spoken to Melbourne City council about this many times but there’s a perception (an incorrect one) that 4000K feels ‘safer’.
We should all be actually using PC Amber LED chips but noooooo… Too ‘expensive’.
Also all LEDs should have lens optics and move away from reflectors to get a wide range of beam angles to prevent glare and other bad stuff that comes with using LEDs.
And we should also be doing proper disposal of LEDs once they die because they’re essentially little computers.
… Ok, rant over.

Yeh people can get guns but kids would have a really, really hard time getting access to one. Knives, easy, but guns? No.

Good grief. Who cares about porn?
Why not address government lobbying, for starters? Or how about the housing crisis/tax incentives that encourage wealth hoarding?
Well… The fact that I’m not a US citizen is a massive hurdle, for starters.
