40·2 months agoHe’s going to try anyways.
If anything, the red states will be stupid enough to listen, probably. The blue states will still vote and effectively will shoot the Republicans in the foot.
Republicans talk big game and are cunning, but not the brightest people in power.

politics @lemmy.world•‘Dictator’ Trump Floats Idea of Canceling Midterm Elections
511·2 months agoFor this dumbass to accomplish this, he would have to re-write the entire constitution. He would have to tirelessly broadcast his dumb message to all offices across the United States and be like “hey uh, republicans are kinda losing in some areas and it made me poopy me diaper some, so i’m cancelling mid-terms, you okay with this bruh?”
In otherwords, he can’t. He can and will try. But he can’t. Unless he wants to start yet another insurrection even as president.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else hate how everyone is trying to make money all the time?
4·2 months agoIf anyone ever tried doing that to me, I would just ruin their video. I would be like “hey yeah, this guy is actually a pedophile” or something then just ruin it. I will not be someone’s object to make money from in that sense. Not unless I’m getting paid.
I would rather be doing a job I don’t like because I know I’m not going to fall in love with it enough to make it my life, than to turn something I’ve fallen in love in doing and making it a job I’ll eventually grow to hate because it is seen as a job.

5·2 months agoThey’ve always won and few of us knew it.
You can’t go to war against an idea which is what Terrorism is all about. It was what the whole entire War on Terror was all about. To actually win such a war, you’d have to have bombed and nuke everywhere but your own country to try and neutralize the idea and even then.
The terrorists had successfully upset the US into going into security, spending and warring frenzies. And still aren’t learning from it.

43·2 months agoThe region’s future must be determined by people themselves, free from the shadow of empire
I have a problem with that line. Maduro has been president of Venezuela since 2013. Just, how long would it take for the people there to free themselves? 50 years? Never?
I mean look at the American people, we’re no different. We keep talking about revolution, civil war, assassination. We’ve only maybe have a couple of near misses, but the rest are just nothingburger after nothingburger. We still willingly wake up, go to work, come back home and repeat everyday while we glue ourselves to the news just getting vicariously pissed off and yet we do dick about it. We just grip onto voting like they’re rosary beads in hopes things turn around and only then do we proclaim we’ve done something, only allowing the villains we’ve elected previously, to get off scot-free.
And even then, that doesn’t promise anyone that we won’t stupidly elect another dictator of our own.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What have you tried to get away with, but couldn't?
6·2 months agoThere had been a couple times where I’d be shopping and Wal-Mart’s alert system at the door couldn’t catch the smaller items. Like, they’re honest mistakes too, not intentional. I would make it out to my vehicle, getting the bags in, until I find one object that went by undetected. Thought about just playing it as a mistake and not paying for it.
Problem was, even if I did that, eventually I’d be confronted about it. I work for the company, they know me, they sure as hell probably seen me on camera throwing in that small object at somepoint and will use that. Just because the guy at the booth by the doors isn’t saying or doing anything or the store isn’t getting a hunch, doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking it.
Anytime this has happened though, I have walked back in and paid for that thing. But sometimes even when I know I scanned everything and paid for them, faulty alarms go off anyways so it’s like they’re bipolar.
People are already manipulating historical figures in what they say, to make them aligned with whatever ideals and beliefs one has politically in modern times.
Once AI generation is advanced enough to actually manipulate video from historical periods, people are going to do that too. They’ll probably try making Hitler seem friendlier.
Whatever baffling bullshit scheme people have.
Politics:
- Democrats take back House, Republicans barely cling to Senate.
- Donald Trump dies at somepoint
- Republicans start seeing losses in other fields of political power, but rural counties will still place faith in them.
- Vladimir Putin starts considering nuclear weapons as a last resort to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
- China starts making moves to Taiwan
Celebrity Deaths:
- Rob Halford passes away
- Keith Richards passes away
Sports:
- Jacksonville Jaguars gets their first Super Bowl
- Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA Finals Champions
- Either Seattle Mariners or Toronto Blue Jays finally get the job done for a World Series

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•(cant find the aita community) am i a bad person for saying "women" instead of "people who can get pregnant"?
14·2 months agoIf you’re looking for support, that’s breaking Rule 3.
And no, it’s not for “no reason”
This is not Reddit. This is not AITA which Reddit used to be plagued by and people over there treated every subreddit as. This question offers nothing open-ended. This user is just looking for validation and therefore breaks Rule 3.
Cry me a river. Rules exist for a reason. Learn to read or shove off.

316·2 months agoFirst off, this is not Reddit, so stop trying to turn it into one with these kinds of posts.
Secondly, I reported your post for violating Rule 3 which seems to be the norm I guess. Because you’re looking for support.
Next time know where you are and read the rules.
Not really. I like fireworks. The only problem is, people firing them off in places where they would otherwise get penalized for. Like we’re not allowed to have fireworks/sparklers of any kind on the apartment premises. Yet that didn’t seem to stop a few idiots who fire them off thinking they’re living in homes and the cars that could get hit or be set on fire should things go wrong, exist.

politics @lemmy.world•Democrat wins Iowa state Senate race, blocking GOP from regaining supermajority
27·3 months agoGood way to end 2025. And I live in IA so hey, good to know something to look forward to in this state.

It has had its memories. But, whenever I’m asked if I had any fond memories from my childhood, I leap to teenager years and high school. Because they were infinitely better.
My middle school years was filled with tons of humiliation, tons of setbacks, tons of embarrassing moments and nothing about it I’ve ever looked back on and was proud about. I was so hateful of my middle school years, I shredded all of my report cards. Not that they’d mean anything, but they reflected upon things about myself then and where everything was at the time. Sure I was a kid who did kid things, but I wasn’t considered a normal kid and I didn’t get to live a normal kid life.
