Awwww dang. I had some small hope that they’d pull the funds together but I’m glad they lasted as long as they did. Saw many shows there and had many a frozen reeses cup.
Holy cow, what a killer list! Thank you for posting!
Great article - glad the Lid I5 is still pushing forward. It would be such a great thing for the city. Also I used to work with John, who they interview in the article - he’s a good dude.
Agreed and welcome! Be prepared to engage in or create a new space for the communities you care about. Things feel like they’re just getting started here, but that’s ok. Good luck and have fun!
Yeah, also they’re a non profit. Not perfect, but way way better than most at least ethically.
Wow, only one contractor bid? That’s wild.
Yeah, I can ask. That facility is tiny - from what I understand it only makes what is sold there? The ‘investment’ noted in the article is bad faith key jangling meant to distract from the relatively way bigger job loss at the actual production facility. I can’t imagine there’s capacity for many transfers.
And if you personally know of any work available involving technical writing, logistics/procurement, industrial process data management, recipe scaling, or similar stuff, please let me know because a really good friend of mine is out of a job because of this union busting bullshit
I don’t know if I remember right but I think there were a whole pack of dems on that ballot all splitting the vote
That stinks. While it’s an odd little theater, I love having it in my neighborhood. It makes a great pair with the Beacon right down the road with the Ark Lodge showing mainstream stuff and the Beacon showing all kinds of other stuff.
Edit: I just want to append that I donated. I hope they survive!
I used the term ‘pursuant’ incorrectly for a long time. I thought it meant something like ‘things you do in order to achieve something’, like sweeping the floor is pursuant to getting the kitchen clean, vs the correct usage, which is either ‘in accordance with’, or ‘in a manner conformable to’. So a correct usage would be ‘sweeping the floor is pursuant to the procedure we set up to clean the kitchen’. Nice word, though. I like it.
Yeah, I usually use one for listening to news and podcasts in the morning. It’ll start with me in the bathroom, then follow me to the kitchen while I make coffee. It doesn’t live in the bathroom, but rather tag along with me. When showering I’ll hang it from a little hook up high. Sounds perfectly adequate for my purposes, though for listening to music as an activity unto itself I would choose a higher quality device.
When the sharing crackdown on Netflix was announced I decided to cancel it and set up a recurring donation in the same amount to a charity I believe in. It felt pretty great. I’m about to cancel Prime, but I need to switch credit cards, which is kind of a pain. Prime isn’t really worth it to me anymore. Otherwise I only pay for the ones that have active shows I’m watching. Haven’t sailed the high seas in decades, and probably won’t start. Missing TV has been great for my hobby productivity 😆
Huh, I hadn’t heard about previous efforts to make it one way for motor vehicles permanently. I’m sure the residents of the homes along that street would love that solution, as would the bikers/walkers who would then have way more than enough space to coexist. Seems unnecessary, though.
I bet you could narrow the lanes and keep the two way slow bumpy motor vehicle traffic while providing a nice two way bike lane, though I’ll admit I’m no traffic engineer. I’m just a person who has driven successfully on more narrow roads. I’d be in favor of a permanent physical barrier between the motor vehicle way and bike way no matter what, though.
I hate those bumps so much, despite also knowing that they have to be there due to speeding jerkfaces, heh.
