I know this doesn’t rest in my hands alone.
It does not rest in your hands at all. NO ONE can or will stop ANYTHING until THEY want to. And they have to REALLY want to. Just going to rehab once or twice doesn’t indicate that specifically. I was in rehab with someone who was there because if he didn’t “do something” his work was going to fire him. I don’t think it was his first - I know it wasn’t his last, he was in there again while I was still in aftercare. That was 12 and a half years ago now … I just found out a couple months ago that he died, drinking.
The real kicker is he’d completely reset his life - he’d moved 6 hours away from here - HE WORKED AT A TREATMENT CENTRE - complete “success” story on the outside, but clearly there was some shit going on inside that he wasn’t talking about or dealing with.
We can’t fix other people. All we can do is be there if and when they reach out for help, and hope for the best. It’s sad, but it’s life.
I’ve been in that same situation, except they refused to serve me at the drive through.
Same. But I was drunk enough and bothered enough by it to go flag down a cab for the sole purpose of going through said drive through.
Holy crap, I forgot this was even a thing … I was awash with memories and feelings as soon as I read the title.
It was M.A.S.H. for me … parents watching reruns, I think, as I’m not that old.
the list keeps growing, but ‘nothing’ is all that keeps happening.
#1 - quitting drinking. I’d have been long dead by now the way I was going. #2 - starting meditation. I’m still not sure how I went 30-someodd years in this body prior with all that noise in my head.
This is what I came to the comments hoping to find an explanation for too.
A peanut with a top hat and a monocle selling you other peanuts, to eat.
Same! Wow, that is a bit much :-(
If you have Hue bulbs (and maybe some other now, haven’t looked in a while) Sleep as Android can do that too!
I came to say Sleep as Android as well. Been using it since we were submitting bug reports on Google+ (anyone old enough to remember Google+ ? lol) … absolutely love it.
Read title too fast, thought we were having another concert.
Amateur stills.
Not to mention the data corruption since the visitors would no longer be limited to the target area!
In the middle of getting my wisdom teeth pulled. They had to like, take me off the laughing gas, but then feed me air or o2 or something for a bit to make sure it was cleared out of my system enough that I could EXIT the dentist’s office and proceed down the hall of the office tower to the shared washroom … while still doped up on the other pain stuff and whatever else was going on (I think they had to shove some gauze in there to keep me from bleeding all over myself or something) … fun times!
I’ve been very happy with my Monoprice “Blackbird 4K DisplayPort 1.4 USB 3.0 4x1 KVM Switch, 4K@60Hz, HDR, YCbCr 4:4:4, HDCP 2.2”. I run an ultrawide at 3840x1600 @ 144 Hz, or HDR at 120 Hz, G-Sync both, and it works wonderfully. It took some effort to get all the required devices using the same connections - went through quite a few “USB-C to DP” cables from Amazon that had to be returned because they couldn’t do the high refresh like they claimed … but once I got everything set up, it’s worked like a dream, 3+ years and counting now I think.
Digress/Digressed
Same. I was so sure actually I was wondering if it was edited after I clicked or something.
I believe it may have been E.T. on Atari. That or the Star Wars one we had, which I think may have been Empire
it just shuts up you internal monologue for long enough to get to sleep
Though it takes longer to achieve, it’s effects go beyond just helping you sleep - regular meditation, even purely secular “mindfulness meditation” can help achieve the same, with lasting effect, and much wider implications in day to day life.
There is sometimes still an internal monologue, but it’s not as powerful or overwhelming, and it’s much easier to ignore or shut off.
Take my meaningless upvote!
