31·8 months agoYou could certainly make up the electrolytes and minerals in other ways (drinking distilled water may even increase appetites for those types of foods). Still, drinking a liquid that leeches minerals out of the tissue around it isn’t healthy

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How to use GPUs over multiple computers for local AI?English
1·9 months agoI know nothing technical to help you. But this guy’s YouTube video goes over random shit about using different computers. I believe he uses thunderbolt 4 to connect the systems, though. Plenty of other material on YouTube, as well.
I think it’s because the United States is a large place and it helps place the region/culture they’re from specifically.
Yes, our US hotel industry has mostly been monopolized by Wyndham and a few other companies. They all build large hotels with the same layout. If you try and go under that price point you get stuck with motels, which have mostly been phased out by our culture from taboo & cleanliness anecdotes. Definitely a far fetch from the experience in Europe and other places. The closest we get is Airbnb like set-ups of personal homes rented out.
I will go even ONE step further than others - if you are scared to start a software like Truenas scale that has a GUI has helped me. A lot of the options offered by others are great but can require a lot of command line stuff. There are a few OS’s out there that are more point and click that I had a lot of success with. Truenas scale runs the docker containers that others are recommending.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are there people that are otherwise logical but drop their skepticism when it comes to religion? How do they consolidate those 2 sides of themselves?English
2·10 months agoTbh I think a lot of people bury that logical side deep down and compartmentalize. The narrative we tell ourselves can be quite powerful.
I see. That makes total sense. Thank you for the information!
I guess both? Platform recommendations like yours will help point me in the right direction to figure out the admin part bit by bit. Much appreciated

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a craving or longing you have that would sound oddly specific to anyone else?English
3·10 months agoI just moved north to Minnesota and the cold winters have somehow kept malls alive. Nowhere near the mall culture of previous decades but maybe worth a trip North sometime, if you miss it

5·10 months agoThis reminds me of my experience with COVID lockdown. Obviously, a pandemic and the vulnerable being sick and losing over a million American lives (and much more globally) was horrible. But for a short time, it was incredible to see the amount of people just visiting parks in the middle of the day and enjoying the warm spring that year. Getting outside to nature was a way a lot of people coped with the isolation and it was beautiful in a way. Moms and grandmas were sewing cloth masks, distilleries switched to making hand sanitizer, people in my area began using local businesses more. There was a definite sense of community, even if it happened through FaceTime calls and social distancing. There are always silver linings to tragedy, I guess.
My only issue with it is that on my iphone, the app constantly freezes and says I have 3 photos left to upload. It’s almost certain to freeze for a few minutes and the upload becomes stalled as well. This behavior made it take a long time to backup my library and it makes it a pain in the ass to share photos quickly with people. Popping into the webUI has none of these issues (just no uploading of my photos). I still quite love the app

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the largest Lego set you've ever built and would you do it again?English
3·11 months agoWhen I was a child I loved bionicles and worked all summer to raise $60 for this double set of dragon looking things. Better yet, you could combine them and make a hybrid monster. Somewhere in that process of creating the hybrid I realized it was too much work disassembling and reassembling and completely gave up.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•You kids don't know what it's like!English
5·11 months agoI see your point. There’s always bad in the world and there will always be discontent in the world but not accepting the current state of things and pushing back is vital for progress. Because things sucked in the 2000s does that invalidate the crimes and wrong being trespassed against us now? Edit: oh it’s a shitpost

41·11 months agoThis guy fucked up my beautiful last name with his existence. Good riddance.
Becoming a parent (especially in today’s world where many older people aren’t educated on tech) is going to be a huge battle of boundaries. Thanks for your response! I realize my baby won’t be able to avoid it all but I believe (hope) there’s a difference in thousands of photos hitting advertisers/training algorithms and the few that will slip through.
Lesser of two evils, I guess. I will definitely try to write out some simple rules and a basic explanation for it. Thanks, again!
