gabriele97@lemmy.g97.topto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•ADMIN, isn't it time to move from lemmy.world?English6·2 years agoYep Cloudflare protects against classic DDoS (like many clients doing a lot of small requests). Here attacks are performed presumibly by users that know very well how the Lemmy’s backend works and where bottlenecks are, so that with a small number of well made requests they are able to mess up the backend and Cloudflare doesn’t notice it
I think it’s worth it, starting from the fact that you support them for offering you free lifetime storage for all your chats, files and media
Lemmy doesn’t require a lot of resources to run smoothly, especially for instances with a low number of users. The only concern may be if you upload a lot of images, they are stored on your drive.
If you don’t want to manage a single user instance you can join someone’s instance (like mine, I am the only one in my instance)
I’m not 100% updated on the matter but as far as I know, post’s IDs are not the same among instances so there is no way, currently, to address them from other instances
OMG this game, I used to play it a lot

Try using a specialized software like rsync (on Linux, idk if it is available on windows too)
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I don’t know how to express how much this shocked me

Wireguard (if you can open udp ports)

As backup I use an rclone mount that is shared via NFS (everything inside a container) and I set that NFS share as a backup storage in proxmox. I think it is a bit convoluted but works fine enough for now.
The recent update broke everything (it automatically locks on app exit both on Android and iOS, even if the automatic lock is set to never)
