  • I reject the premise. People have varying strengths of their immune system outside of autoimmune diseases, they’re not equal. One person’s natural ability to fight off a disease is not the same as another’s. Immune systems also can get overwhelmed. People can even get multiple viruses at the same time.

While scientifically, if I’m not mistaken, natural immunity tends to be a stronger form of immunity once the person survives a disease, surviving the disease is of course not a guarantee for anyone. Vaccination, when available, reduces the chance a person dies to a disease in the same way that warning somebody about something allows them to take preparatory action.

Prefer? Vaccination every time if available. I don’t like getting diseases my body has to scramble to fight.

  • Bought a gun. Have used them plenty, never figured I’d own one. Political violence by the American right is too commonplace. This administration is sweeping people off the street without due process. I’ve read history books. Might as well buy it and not need it than need it and not have it is how I feel.

And to anyone thinking about buying a gun who has never fired one, take a safety course and try it out first.

  • Network effects are quite difficult to overcome. Lemmy’s largest influxes of users have been when Reddit does something unpopular enough to warrant people looking for other places. Same was true when Reddit became popular because Digg made bad decisions, or Facebook when MySpace did.

The answer is that Lemmy almost assuredly will never be as popular, but at least its future is not dictated by the profits of a company, or censorship imposed by or on that company.

The best we can do is make Lemmy a viable alternative (it is) and ensure it is of a high quality.

JPEG isn’t great at storing flat-color lossless images, which is PNG’s forte.

JPEG isn’t, but JPEG-XL, on the other hand, has come into existence and has great compression while being pixel-perfect lossless as compared to PNG (among a host of other improvements).

If only it got the support it deserves (thanks Google for making that harder)

  • Their company is an AI assistant for shopping, so trying to put AI everywhere including places it shouldn’t be is gonna happen.

I like my build scripts dependable, debuggable, and deterministic. This is wild. When the bot makes a pull request, and the user (who may be someone else at some point) doesn’t respond with exactly what the prompt wants, what happens? What happens when Claude Code updates, or has an outage? Don’t change that GitHub action at the end’s name without remembering to update the prompt as well.

  • I’d argue this could be true but it heavily depends on the type of monarchism a state has, how nationalist its peoples are, how militant the state is, and if there’s a strict order to society that is trying to be imposed.

Obviously, being a proto-fascist state, it wouldn’t need to have all of these at once and not to the extent they would be if the state was fascist but if enough of these indicators appeared to exist, I think you could make an argument in favor.
