See, I’m torn. On one hand, I feel like this ‘us vs. them’ mentality contributes to the sort of tribalism that ultimately results in movements like MAGA popping up. If these people can only operate in MAGA-friendly spaces, they’ll rarely speak to anyone who disagrees with them, and will have no reason to reflect on their worldview.

Then I read the news. If current events aren’t enough to convince them that they’re misguided, I’m not sure that anything will.

I’m not sure I know what the solution is, but it’s been an interesting discussion.

That’s fair, I can definitely understand that position and agree with you on the NK apologists.

From my point of view, I think it’s more productive to interact with people I disagree with, in the (possibly naive) pursuit of changing their minds. If people are kicked out for their views, I’d imagine many of them will just double down and act like a martyr.

To be clear, I’m not saying we shouldn’t call these people out and downvote them – that’s why that function exists right? But maybe once in a while, something that we argue will resonate with them.

Of course there are limits to that approach, and this all hinges on the other person arguing in good faith. Based on the OP’s post history, I’ll admit that I may be barking up the wrong tree in this case.

In what way did they troll me? Did somebody call them a fag or not? If so, I don’t care what their justification was, that person is an asshole.

I used to love standup comedy. These days I feel as though so much of the mainstream comedy scene is made up of immature losers who peaked in highschool. Joe Rogan, Bert Kreisher, Bobby Lee, Chris Distefano… I cannot stand these guys. The list goes on.
