Real. I have laughed harder at a funeral than 99% of all “political humor”. Did you know Trump is orange HAHEHEHAEHAEUAEAUEAUHEAUHEUUHEUHEEUHEUHEHUEHE.
Lemmy is kinda bad

This is the (only) way, but it’s also like infinite whack-a-mole except slightly more irritating.
Listen I have left leaning politics but does every other post have to be about some political shit on the all tab,
Just every other? You must’ve spent quite some time filtering shit already, then.
You see, if you don’t like all the ragebait you are No True Leftist. Disagree with anyone at any time? Gotta hand that card in, bro, 'cause you’ve got to be some fascist or something. Or “shitlib” or whatever cringe terminology the tankies use. This may come as a shock to you but at least Random Angry Dipshit was kind enough to inform you about your entire political stance that you thought was something radically different. Neat trick, right? Aren’t you grateful? I know I am.
I feel like I’m forced into this box that is my subscribed feed or I have to actively search out new communities because all is just a political circle jerk that I don’t care about.
Correct! It’s also an unappealing and rather significant workload trying to find real activity on real communities on here to subscribe to, so /all is kinda it. Discoverability is garbage, one of many upshots of the way the federation gimmick was implemented.
Not to mention the moment I came back I saw a fucking flow chart on the instances drama of the week. If I wasn’t so dedicated to dropping Reddit I think the average Joe would have left by now seeing all of this.
I’m sure they mostly do, if they ever even learn of this place at all. That’s why it keeps being like this. Parts of the fedv are indistinguishable from satire or outright trolling - that’s not counting explicitly blatant troll instances like ml, gr*d and hb. I’d seriously thought some of the leftist infighting meme was… y’know, a meme… Or that “here, I disagree with this one thing you said and now you’re banned from X communities”, from people who spent the last sentence whining about Reddit moderators. (They are right in isolation, just big blubbering hypocrites.)
I’m not saying there ISNT other type of content on lemmy or piefed it just feels like the stuff that floats to the top is political
Engagementbait on a platform that isn’t even pushing “the algorithm” that way. Nifty, right?
It’s not going to change, or even get any less of a pain to try to curate unless tooling gets better. It won’t, because the Lemmy devs at least are tankie idiots who have no interest in making anything easy to curate (because then, the very first thing to go is their main shitholes for being blatant assholes to everyone except dictators)
Edit: on that note, instance blocks on ml, gr*d and hb are an absolute must

75·23 days agoAnything can be a bannable offense when someone is enough of a little internet fascist. Probably won’t kill the fedv off entirely but is damn sure not a selling point for anyone not already here.
“Hey, you know the people who get all officious and pissy about the tiniest atom of your every utterance? No, not the altright, the ot- yeah. How would you like to go discuss shit on a forum where half the major instances act like that? No, not Reddit, you wouldn’t have heard of it as it’s pretty niche for some reason. No? Yeah, didn’t think so.”

41·30 days agoI believe in reality, the kneejerk reddit mod multiban just transitioned seamlessly into fediverse multibans and defederations - I know, who could’ve foreseen such shit. Some defederation happened for good reasons, but I’ve been cluster banned from a bunch of communities I never even been in as a “lemmy.world zionist”, apparently, and that last bit is news to me at least. People bring their sad, incredibly petty bullshit with them.
People here are no fonder of “alternate viewpoints” than on reddit, you can tell the hivemind kicking in just from the person who pointed out a couple of blatantly realistic issues 8 seconds ago.

5·1 month agoAny pushing you can do is probably not going to help. Last time it was some API shit that actually generated a small amount of outrage enough to move a small amount of people. Apathy, habit and lock-in will tend to defeat that, so unless this gets people at least as pissed as whatever the API thing was, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Also, y’know, reddit… maybe it’s just as well.

18·1 month agoSpeaking as a nearly lifelong developer of one kind or another, with ASD and ADHD… there’s a big ol’ overlap. I’m not talking “the venn diagram is a circle” level overlap, but it is significant. Lots of people with these traits have personality quirks, differences in socioemotional processing from the “typical” stuff, experiences in early life, and other things, that can cause some pretty intense rabbit holing/spiraling when things get overwhelming.
To be clear though, this guy is obviously just a major dipshit. Nobody deserves being lumped in with that.

Not sure this would help in itself, even though more flexible blocking would ironically be nice. The value in such a list lies in how it’s curated, and the guy is still certifiable and about 3yo mentally, tops.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•LLM-bot activity on question communities?English
211·1 month agoI have been wondering if “No Stupid Questions” is being misunderstood as a challenge. Originally, I think it was meant to be “no question too ‘obvious’”, but sometimes it does seem like there’s a contest on for asking the dumbest shit imaginable. All things considered LLM slop is likely, but it could still be “literally any topic for attention or activity’s sake” or plain old trolling.
When it comes to deleted threads that makes a lot of sense if you’re running a scam, but I suspect it’s also how people would react if enough people called them out for a bot.
PRs are too inflexible. I don’t need 4 eyes on every change, especially in a universe where LLMs exist.

294·3 months agoTry to argue with the LLM evangelists, the inevitable brain damage it causes will let you get on disability.
On one hand this is not the first hype cycle, on the other hand the other hype cycles didn’t all fade. The inevitable bullshit brought on by vibecoding and shit like that is eventually going to be some kind of problem. People may or may not just ignore that problem, like most other issues in tech.

GoT’s final half and definitely last season pissed me off to no end at the time, but in retrospect I’m glad I don’t have to care about this anymore.
Not necessarily, but why choose a project that needs interfacing with an existing ecosystem where it can mostly only be noise?
If you want to deal with a complicated mess of a system as a project, you could always grab Arch
