Guys, I’ve gone back. Turns out you can get Reddit revanced and remove the ads/promoted posts so I’m fine with the Reddit app now. I’m kinda using both but there’s just so much more content on Reddit.

Bit late to the party, but either Mortal Engines, the Young James Bond series, or Michelle Paver’s Chroncal’s of Ancient Darkness. They were all very engaging and transformative to a young me.
I probably remember parts of Young James bond the best, there’s parts about leeches that really stuck with me. I can still remember Mortal Engines as a whole in great detail, the concept and descriptions of the city chases are fantastic.
Anyone who would’ve left Reddit has already done so, they may be a small increase when Boost/sync becomes available but I doubt we’ll see much growth. No one has ever heard of Lemmy.
It’s probably a case where Russia could attack Poland’s forces in Belarus but attacking Polish soil would involve article 5.
Most of it is contained to Reddit related communities, just block them if you don’t want to see the downfall of Reddit in real time.
I’ll be a bit scared doing that, with all the instances I’ve been thinking how easy it will be to have malware links. How is shi.t.justwo.rks or whatever less random than a malicious link?
Sure, if you’re studying the effects of social media, you’ll have to go on it. That’s not what we’re talking about though. Kids aren’t needing to communicate through social media with other “researchers” at school. Not sure why you’re equating school children to scientist doing actual first hand research, school projects are almost always second hand information, from the research papers, even if they’re about social media.
But let’s not kid ourselves, 99% of what students used YouTube for was timewasting. I didn’t like it when I was at school but I recognise blocking YouTube was easier than monitoring every kids computers at school to make sure they’re working.
They’re meant to be using link aggregators like Google Scholar to find papers, not Facebook. Definitely not TikTok.
And idk what it’s like in your country but the vast majority of research for school here was done at home for homework, where you can watch all the “lectures” you want. Kids just look at dumb shit when they’re at school so they don’t have to work. They also don’t have time to be watching hour long lectures in class. You really don’t need access to social media sites at school.
Imagine thinking I’m on a high horse because I understand kids like wasting time. Give me one good reason someone would need to use TikTok for school purposes. XD
I’m not sure when you graduated, but YouTube has never and will never be considered a valid source. You need to be looking at research papers, studies, newspaper articles and shit. At best the YouTube video might have sources in it’s description and then you reference those sources, not youtube.
Time wasting sites like YouTube or TikTok have been blocked in schools for as long as I can remember.
Nope.
You don’t need to port forward or anything for Plex to work outside your network, right? That’s the whole point of Plex. All my friends can access my server wherever.
It’s a European law which forces companies to delete your data if requested. They are probably deleting heir account.
I went back onto Reddit today and like 20 posts in popular had 5k+ comments. I really miss the variety but, we’ll get there.
Yeah I knew that. Funded by his father’s emerald mine money no doubt. And pretty sure he just bought in, not founded. Something about a PayPal merger with x.com (Elon Musk). Musk isn’t clever, he doesn’t know how to code, he doesn’t have any real skills. He’s never done anything at spaceX, you think he’s designing rockets or some shit? No. He’s making actually smart people do it for him.
The fact is, you can’t become a billionaire without exploiting your workers. And these ancestors that created money did so in exploitive ways too, slaves, colonising, EMERALD MINES, etc.
Genuinely, show me a good billionaires who earned their money and I’ll show you 100 who inherited slave money or exploited their workers.
Like, I know this is a serious topic but “rises to 2” is hilarious to me and shows how desensitized I am. 2 deaths in an armed conflict seems pretty good to me.
It’s kinda annoying how many instances there are. Lemmy isn’t popular enough for each sub to have 5 or 6 segregated subs for each topic.
You sound like a bot, but incase you’re a real person.
Do you really believe billionaires earned their fortune from hardwork? Elon Musk spends his whole day on twitter shit posting. They’re just nepobabies with money already. It’s easy to turn lots of money into more money.
Billionaires do like 2 hours of work a week, a janitor works harder than them, they’re just compensated very differently. There is no world where a billionaire worked hard enough to deserve to steal from everyone underneath them.
You don’t need to watch them, but the possibility to post is still better for the community. The porn side of Lemmy will be a shadow of it’s former Reddit self without videos/ability to play redgifs videos in app. Then you have the dog videos, and then the TikTok videos which you might not like but it’s undeniable they draw a crowd.
Thing is, with videos, which I’m assuming will come eventually, it will be the best one for me. Most social media feeds are awful, looking at you Instagram, TikTok and Reddit default app. Far too much soggested content.
I’d just much rather it play in app, hoping Boost is able to play links natively without having to open them.
It’s all about ease of use, I don’t want to click on a bunch of links, it’s easier to scroll, watch, scroll. Also, I haven’t even seen links to videos, video posts are wayyyyyy down.
First you have to install the revanced manager onto your phone.
Then uninstall the play store Reddit app if you still have it. And install a version of Reddit from here I believe you want a bundled version but it’ll tell you if that’s wrong when you try patch it with revanced.
Finally open the revance manager and find Reddit, click the patches you want - it’s quite limited still and you’ll probably only want to select the remove ads patch but have a read, there might be 2 or 3 you want. If there’s an error try downloading a slightly older Reddit apk.
