My main issue is I’m not shutting down my Pi-Hole, home assistant, NAS etc etc just to plug in something like this in, and then 24h or so later shut them all down again to retrieve it again. That said I basically have a collection of Pis (passively cooled and this silent) and a Synology disk station so the power use is pretty low.

But this poses an interesting dilemma for Google, potentially to top 100 results could end up just being the same post observed on many Lemmy and kbin instances.

From the comment I’m guessing Canada… but then India is commonwealth too so the logic doesn’t really work.

If you use kbin you can even see who has made each upvote, so yes easy to then look for patterns of voting together and also at the profiles to see if the accounts looks like real people etc.

Posts and comments are federated (synchronised). Upvotes are actually a bit of a fudge, they are actually ‘Favourites’ if considered from an activity pub (e.g. Mastodon) perspective, and yes favourites are also federated.
Downvotes don’t exist in activity pub and, as a result, they do not federate between instances.
At least that is my understanding.

And here I am amused to be reading all the Lemmy centric replies to a Lemmy specific meme … but doing it from elsewhere on the Fediverse. Here on kbin we interact with Mastodon just like we do with Lemmy. It all looks like one wonderful integrated fediverse from here!

I believe you can moderate a community on/from another instance, so it would be logical if, when agreeing to mutually follow each other, they also agreed to add mods from the reciprocating community?

The Reddit example could have worked the same, but the sub due to scale the equation is different and the benefit of the increased community size is less and the Reddit mods would likely see little benefit Vs the dilution of mod status.

Same old. Just follow specific users by copying their full ID (e.g. @Teppic @kbin.social without the space) onto the search on Mastodon and follow as normal.

We should perhaps use hashtags more here because that would would be another way for Mastodon users to find/follow kbin content.

Going the other way to contribute to a kbin magazine from Mastodon, If you want the post to appear in a particular magazine, simply mention it in the post content, for example, “@fediverse @kbin.social” (no space) Note it will appear in the Microblog section.

It is, there are like only three major roads leading on and off Crimea. This one is the one furthest away from the frontline and pointing towards Melitopol which is one of the cities Ukraine is hoping to reach with their counter offensive to cut the Russians in half.

Two other roads point more towards Kherson and where the dam was, so a bit of two roads to nowhere atm.

It seems this is to further limit resupply routes for Russia.

Might have something to do with the way kbin ranks posts. Top posts are mostly ranked according to boosts rather than upvotes (favourites). I’d guess people are less likely to boost porn since a boost theoretically ‘retweets’ the post. Actually I’m also not sure if you can boost from Lemmy?

But you might as well say why isn’t Mastodon included? Kbin is a fundamentally different platform and architecture, even if the two are largely compatible (as is Mastodon, to a slightly lesser extent with Lemmy).
It is perfectly reasonable to look at the growth of Lemmy, think of it like quoting use of one flavour of Linux - Linux uptake overall is also interesting, but not the same.
