I somehow feel things have changed. Maybe it’s the internet, lack of education, consumerism, whatever. I hate to say this, bit I feel like a lot of people, when they get hungry, would steal from their neighbours. Far too many folk don’t understand that the wealthy are the author of their suffering and won’t know where to target their anger. Not to mention that oligarchs are hard to catch, whereas your neighbour with a slightly newer car is right there, and may be of a different race. People don’t understand who they should be angry with.

Yeah, they have essential skills and experience and are almost impossible to replace, especially at short notice. We don’t tend to think of them when we fly, but they’re a reason we survive the experience. And given the stress of their jobs, IMO whatever they’re getting paid isn’t enough. And now they’re not getting paid at all.

Lol, you can walk ten miles in about 3 hours at a regular pace. Most reasonably fit people can, anyway. Not everyone has access to cars, and even less so in the '40s. 10 miles would be considered close on foot, much less by bicycle.

People knew about the concentration camps, though, and must have seen there were many more people going in than they could hold. Dachau was maybe 10 miles from Munich, that’s walking distance. No way people didn’t know, whatever they claimed later.

Yeah, a lot of those shiny trucks and SUVs are bought on credit by people who really can’t afford them and don’t need a vehicle like that anyway.

Yeah, my current car is an almost 20 year old Mercedes c class, bought it a couple of years ago for 3k. Some of those cars that used to be at the upper end of the price range are pretty affordable when they get older. Mine had a good dealership service history, it’s given me very little trouble, and it’s great to have a nice car. I can’t imagine wanting to buy anything new, even if I could afford to.
