  • In political science, a reactionary or a reactionist is a person who holds political views that favor a return to the status quo ante—the previous political state of society—which the person believes possessed positive characteristics that are absent from contemporary society. As a descriptor term, reactionary derives from the ideological context of the left–right political spectrum. As an adjective, the word reactionary describes points of view and policies meant to restore a status quo ante.

As an ideology, reactionism is a tradition in right-wing politics; the reactionary stance opposes policies for the social transformation of society, whereas conservatives seek to preserve the socio-economic structure and order that exists in the present. In popular usage, reactionary refers to a strong traditionalist conservative political perspective of a person opposed to social, political, and economic change.

Reactionary ideologies can be radical in the sense of political extremism in service to re-establishing past conditions. To some writers, the term reactionary carries negative connotations—Peter King observed that it is “an unsought-for label, used as a torment rather than a badge of honor.”

  • I mean, sure but Dems only really have a chance because Republicans continue to run the shuttiest candidates imaginable. That is absolutely true

Like, Obama won partly because McCain chose to run with Palin. It’s not the only reason he won, but it’s silly to think it wasn’t a major factor - especially considering everything we know about white American voters, that’s been made just as clear as it ever could be. I bet it was a tough decision for some/many Americans

I’ve always wished I could feel like the choice in a general election was a hard decision, but alas I’m working class and brown (and believe in science)

  • I’m genuinely glad the people I disagree with are able to come around and accept reality and admit they were wrong. I legit applaud y’all!

That said, for the love of god, please take a moment to assess why you came to that incorrect conclusion, purge yourself of any pundits in your feed that were confident in their now clear lies (saying there was no way Biden would drop out), and seek out those that correctly predicted what has happened.

For example, the people in this clip saying Biden would be the nominee. If I was on the fence with listening to any of them before, I’d absolutely never consider anything they say about politics ever again without a clear apology and explanation of how they messed up and their plan to improve going forward. At worst they’re liars and at best they’re not good at informing us.

The easier thing is to just go look for people that were right about something. One big example, for me, is Michael Moore being right about the 2020 election. He said Trump could win and was ridiculed on corporate news networks.

  • Gotta admit, it’s interesting how I specifically mentioned politicians and media networks and you responded by alluding to a vague “government” entity that seemingly acts on its own.

In my mind, the government is just a name for the politicians people elected. It’s like saying corporations seek profit like they have feelings and desires or something, and not like they’re falling explicit laws and instructions set forth by politicians, which again are human beings that we’ve specifically elected.

That said, at least you answered my question, albeit without ever actually considering it

  • Dude, I don’t think you understood my comment.

If politicians/corporate media came out and said, it’s unfortunate but there’s too much money, power, assets on the line, we have to let Israel’ genocide continue and we have to continue to support them for X, Y, and Z reason I’d actually feel respected.

My understanding is that those groups have regularly dismissed any evidence that the genocide is happening, they’ve claimed protests by student and university faculty are stupid and due to them being brainwashed, and most-improtantly they’ve claimed anyone that doesn’t support Israel hates Jews.

Can you please respond with a slightly better understanding of my comment? Please ask if something’s not clear.

Do you even care how their lies erode the trust Americans could/should have in there leaders and institutions?

  • I want to agree with you. I’d be with you if you’d at least mentioned the impact this has on actual American citizens.

My understanding is plenty of people have been silenced for expressing their support for Palestine. I mean, hasn’t Congress literally proposed/passed bills saying they can’t even talk about the number of people dying?

It’s fascinating how people are so eager to sweep it all under the rug Americans themselves are ignored just to protect Israel, and more importantly, to protect American politicians that refuse to even learn about the situation. That’s not even mentioning the absolute infuriating trash that passes as corporate news nowadays (including anything pushed to the masses by large social media publishers). It’s like in order to protect Israel… err I mean, stop caring about this issue because it makes us uncomfortable, we’re entirely willing to allow news organizations to be straight-up propaganda, feeding blatant misinformation. It’s weird how we have zero criticism for them because that might invite someone to mention Gaza
