World News@lemmy.world•Denmark, Netherlands react to Trump's DEI ultimatumEnglish
54·9 months agoI can only imagine that EU is just quietly finding ways to not be dependent on the US right now.
What Trump is doing/does is unacceptable. But US citizens have been groomed to accept everything from their perceived leader.
EU has not been groomed to accept these things. They know to just ignore while they can and get ready for a trade war, cold war, or any sort of war.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•LubeLogger: Self-Hosted, Open-Source, Unconventionally-Named Vehicle Maintenance Records and Fuel Mileage TrackerEnglish
7·9 months agoDoes anyone know about any other self-hosted/open source projects that are like this? As in, “everyone” could find these useful?
Other ones I know about are Mealie (cookbook) and Warracker (Warranty Tracker).

World News@lemmy.world•Americans walked from door to door and failed to find a family Vance's wife could visit before cancelled visit in Nuuk, according to Danish TV2English
14·9 months agoGood.
Fuck my country. Never been proud of it, and how I am only ashamed of it even more.
This must be a personal hell. Growing up, I wanted to get out of my small town because I hated being surrounded by idiots. So I did.
Now… well… there is no escape apparently.

3·9 months agoYeah, this would be bad for everyone. Even the corps. I don’t think any CEO actually wants to become an actual real life general.
Because there would be wars from these ‘independent’ corps.

44·9 months agoWho cares what the cause of the behavior is? It is unacceptable.
That should be enough. No need to even try to explain of empathize with it.
But it is telling that the richest man in the history of mankind acts like this. People should see that wealth does not equate to strength, intelligence, good politics, etc. But instead people see wealth as a way to get away with anything they want, even if it is completely embarrassing stuff that no one with self respect would even think about.
Hello, I am also new at self hosting semi recently. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once your over the hump, it gets a lot better.
First, 100% use docker desktop if your using windows. Most github projects have a docker file you can use. This will take out 90% of the setup required and you don’t have to worry about applications not working on your computer. Thats the point of docker, to remove the “doesn’t work on my computer” problem.
Here are some independent github projects that I found useful for me and were simple to setup.
- excalidraw - digital whiteboard. You don’t need to self host this, but its a fun little project. You can just go to excalidraw.com and have 100% of the same features (it is all saved in your browser’s cache).
- mealie - I cook a lot so this is a nice ‘permanent’ cook book to have.
- warracker - I always forget what I have warranties on, so this will be helpful for me.
- Arr projects like sonarr, radarr, Jellyfin - sonarr and radarr is a good project to sink your teeth into (do not recommend using docker for this, I had issues with my docker container connecting to my external drives because I have Windows Home edition). This ecosystem is usually everyone’s first project along with pihole since its so useful. Sonarr and radarr will probably take you a week or weekend, Jellyfin will take like 5 min.

4·10 months agoThe internet really is not a good representation of the US when it comes to day to day life for ‘normal’ people.
Other than office gossip, the effects of our shitty leadership hasn’t effected the lives of everyone. Its more of a storm off in the distance that casts a big shadow as it randomly electrocutes people here and there. But still far away that you can’t see it happen, but you can hear it happen.

politics @lemmy.world•Tim Walz says he and Harris were too ‘safe’ during 2024 presidential campaign
11·10 months agoI am hopeful that this next cycle the progressives that actually want to do something will break free from institutionalized/leadership of the party of democrats.
Not hopeful they will receive that opportunity again though.

I try to improve myself every day.
But I can never achieve this level of genius. The answer is so obvious now!
