If by that you mean “they followed the same standard procedure that’s been in place for the entire history of the United States” then yes, exactly.

Or he waited until the Trump campaign sunk millions of dollars into a strategy that has now been completely subverted and which they have no real way out of without a massive pivot like dropping Trump which isn’t going to happen. If that’s the case, I’d call it a pretty savvy move.

And then a bunch of people do that because “my guy is going to win anyway so it doesn’t matter” and you end up losing. Remember Brexit? never be too confident.

The thing is they only need this level of fanatic obedience from their base to get IN. Once they are, and they’re able to warp the government to their vision, everything else will fall into place.

Democracy is when officials are elected, period. They may be bastards, and the wealthy may have a (substantially) outsized influence on the government, but the American people by-and-large have much greater influence over their elected officials than most other countries, especially non-democracies.

I was a freshman in college that fall and someone put up flyers for a memorial dance party in his honor. They had cheap beer and loud music which was fun enough for teenage me.

That is indeed the kind of thing one could make inferences from.

But you can move within the US to a place where his people have less direct control over the local government. That’s what I’m doing.
