121·10 months ago“there’s nothing wrong with capitalism”
You sure about that?
Also you’re describing commerce, which can exist in non-capitalist systems.

74·10 months agoI don’t understand how this level of depraved evil became so normal in our society. What happened to literally any ambition to evolve?

14·10 months agoSpoiler alert: they can’t!
Starbucks has been spending tens of millions of dollars a year trying to figure out how to grow coffee in non-traditional coffee growing regions like hot lowlands where it doesn’t get cool at night.
These farmers will be abandoned by their colonial overlords, and replaced with new farmers in different areas.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the legitimate use-case for generative AI?
223·11 months agoI sorta disagree though, based on my experience with llms.
The email it generates will need to be read carefully and probably edited to make sure it conveys your point accurately. Especially if it’s related to something as serious as insurance.
If you already have to specifically create the prompt, then scrutinize and edit the output, you might as well have just written the damn email yourself.
It seems only useful to write slop that doesn’t matter that only gets consumed by other machines and dutifully logged away in a slop container.

Seattle@lemmy.world•How much longer we're sitting in traffic as workers return to officesEnglish
4·11 months agoI can’t read this article because it’s paywalled, but the headline said 9% longer.
That’s such a massive underestimate it’s ridiculous.
My total commute minutes went from 150 per week to 350. When full RTO started.
That’s a 133% increase in commute time.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s an album you thought you would like at first but ended up disliking after listening to it?
7·1 year agoEvery other queens of the stone age record is an instant classic. They’re probably my favorite band and I genuinely dislike half their stuff.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's some good news from election night in the US?
14·1 year agoNot currently. Except for starvation wage retail. Tech hiring is still mostly frozen and smaller companies tend to just copy larger ones.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you value high fidelity (audio, visual, or other)? Do you notice a difference?
4·1 year agoYou can get very good stereo speakers and a quality amp for a few hundred bucks.
The idea that you need to spend thousands is a myth. It’s more about form factor than specs. Sound bars suck. Full range woofers don’t.

4·1 year agoCame here to say:
- thyroid medication
- obstruction surgery
- cancer surgery and treatment
- cardiology to treat dilated cardiomyopathy.
Probably cost $25k over the years. I’m extremely grateful our pet insurance covered 80-90% of that.
Dude just turned 10 and he’s healthy and happy enough to start treating his arthritis.

8·1 year agoYou couldn’t be more wrong.
All my teacher friends wind up working 10 hour days on average.
They work during breaks.
They work during summer.
Good teachers don’t just show up for classroom time then disappear.

Sometimes providing food for kids who don’t have it.
Famously low salaries and very long hours.
