Half to a third of the U.S. The rest of us know full well how bad this is. I really hope Cali puts its tariff exemptions in place and Oregon and Washington follow suit because otherwise we’re going to see the worst recession in the country’s history
Oh god, please don’t make me talk about myself.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What if there was a health tracking device that you swallow?
5·11 months agoI mean, the major issue there is “toilet equipped with an automatic cleaning and recovery module.” That is gonna be a huge expenditure for even one toilet in-home, and you’re not always at home when nature calls.
I think it’d be more feasible for the health tracking device to embed itself in your stomach or intestines somewhere so that it just doesn’t pass through, notwithstanding all the sanitation issues that arise from trying to implant something internally where all your food/waste passes through.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else feel like life's been on pause for too long?
131·1 year agoHonestly I can’t remember the last time my life was on “Play.” I’ve been stuck in the same job so long it’s had two name changes and an acquisition since I started. It’s decent money and I can tolerate the work which is largely why I’m still there, because almost everyone I knew when I started has left or been fired. And I’m so afraid that if I leave or get let go I won’t be able to find anything else because the job market’s been absolute dogshit.
I’ve been experimenting with my gender presentation. I did a full body shave and picked up a skirt. I don’t think it’s helped me feel better about my body. I just kind of want to be a brain in a jar or a stuffed animal or something that doesn’t look like a complete pile of shit no matter how it’s dressed up.
I mean, that’s kind of the point, right? Workers that are well rested tend to be more productive, so 4 10s kind of defeats the purpose of the 4 day week - notwithstanding that you do get the extra day off, you’re that much more burnt out because you had even less time to take care of yourself the preceding 4 days.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's that one sandwich you can't stop thinking about? be detailed
5·1 year agoThere’s a sandwich shop around Vancouver that’s only open like 10-2 on weekdays so I hardly ever get to go, but they get their bread from a local bakery every morning and it makes all the difference. It’s a simple turkey and cheddar sandwich, lettuce, tomato, pickle, a hint of mayo and Dijon mustard, but the ingredients are all quality and, again, the bread is fresh and super soft.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something people you encounter at your job say that makes you want to scream? (Job, person & quote)
3·1 year agoI get this with a young (30’s) CEO at a small business. Dude has literally zero follow through, he will ask for things, you will do them, he will forget he asked for them, and then complain you didn’t do an entirely unrelated thing that he never asked for. I am genuinely astounded at how he makes it to the office the few days he’s actually here.
Yeah, definitely misread that myself.
To OP, I see a lot of people with anthro PFPs posting from Pawb, maybe look into that instance?
I do nice things for other people when I’m up to it, but I hesitate to call myself a ‘nice person’ because niceness isn’t necessarily an intrinsic quality, in the same way that I can be a transient dumbass at times without thinking of myself as an idiot.

I look like the archetypical IT guy. 30s, balding, overweight, like I’m constantly about to have a nervous breakdown (I am.)

World News@lemmy.ml•Whistleblower Josh Dean of Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems has died
3·2 years agoI mean, I’m not trying to play DA for shitty-ass Boeing here, but coincidences do happen. I’m certainly more likely to believe this death was a result of bad luck than the suicide from a guy who told his family, and I quote: “If anything happens, it’s not suicide.”

World News@lemmy.ml•'In the US, they think we're communists!' The 70,000 workers showing the world another way to earn a living
22·2 years agoU.S. workers already shoulder the losses of their corporations. Almost every business runs a skeleton crew to maximize profits for the people at the top and when the whole thing inevitably falls apart, they get shit-canned and the C-Suite gets golden parachutes on their way to the next cannibalization.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you still get the "it's Friday!" feeling?
1·2 years agoNot really, Friday and Saturday tend to be “less bad” days but they’re all bad and getting worse.
A little out of left field, Miasmata from back in like the 2010’s. It is pretty rough around the edges, and the special antagonist AI system was over-promised and under-delivered… But for a literal two-brothers dev team, the cartography system is solid, and the art is passable at worst and when the light hits the island just right, it’s downright picturesque. I’d say it’s worth your time if it’s still available on steam.
I spent three years miserable on the mechanical engineering track that was colloquially known as “pre-business” before I ended up with an MIS degree at 23 after a hard pivot and an extra year and change of classes. I’d be hard pressed to say I’m ‘happy’ today, but the degree has afforded me the ability to live quasi-comfortably on my own.
