Ohh… No issues. I tried it with the world map 16kx16k image and it worked. My i gpu couldn’t handle it but my gpu did open it

I don’t know why it souldn’t. DM me the image so that I can test it
For any other use case, I would have recommended Rust, but for making a hobby game engine, I would advise not using either rust or Odin and instead use C and C++. The graphics drivers have a primary C Abi and you would spend a really long time debugging C to Odin/Rust translation layer bugs than actually working on he engine.
I would suggest write a C rendering library, wrap it in safe Rust and move on from there.

Programming@programming.dev•Advice on a project idea for learning Rust!
5·1 year agoI started with rust 2 years back. It has been amazing since. Just build stuff you want to use, even recreate simple apps that you use everyday and have a rough idea on how they work. Getting used to the borrow checker takes time so don’t do something massive. Also if you haven’t finished the rust book and rustlings, I highly recommend them. They are amazing materials.
You can check out my github for ideas. I have till now as far as I can remember built a notification daemon, an automatic music player, a time management app, a video server, video library manager, a C/C++ build system and lots of other stuff. Reading other people’s code will make you get best practices.
PS Don’t learn from my builder_cpp project. The code is utter garbage, but it was how I used to do stuff in the early days

231·1 year agoVery sadly, this fucker may live well past 100. I cannot come close to describing to you how much extra awesome health care this rich fucks can get if they want. Want to know every week if there is a slightest possible chance of cancer? Get a weekly mri (doesn’t even have radiation completely risk free). Want a customized dose of ketamine so that you don’t od but get the best high? You got it. Want a leacher to grab all the by products of ketamine metabolism? Here’s the pill.
Have you played Cyberpunk where the arasaka crapbag lives forever? We are actually paper thin distance away from it.
I use Obsidian primarily and just push everything to git. Remember to gitignore
.obsidian/workspaces.jsonto prevent conflicts on multiple devices.

I also love this. I don’t why but gc languages feel so incomplete to me. I like to know where the data is that I have. In c/c++ I know if I am passing data or pointer, in rust I know if it’s a reference or the data itself. Idk, allows me to think better

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What scientific discovery, which could actually happen in the next 5 years, would have the most impact in our lives in you opinion?
3·2 years agoAn6 form if room temp super conductor would be awesome. Like electronics will stop emitting heat and in case of ICs and microprocessors, difficulty to work with won’t he an issue as you fab them.
Also school level science experiments will get more exciting

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How different would civilization be if humans had "mating season" ?
8·2 years agoBoink once a year, get no fire or wheel.
Ohh it’s much worse than that. Usually humans would live to around 60 if they survived infancy before that. Their diet was varied and since food was a limited resource, there was no way of population blasts. But agriculture just fucked it all up. We stopped moving around since the land needed constant maintainence and since the diet became mostly carbohydrates, combined with back breaking work, our life expectancy dropped to 40. We didn’t domesticate wheat, wheat domesticated us. It took modern medicine… ie 20th century to get the average life expectancy up again.
I recommend you read the book called Sapiens. It’s an eye opener.
Agriculture.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you could make a non-linux OS go mainstream, which one would you pick?
6·2 years agoRefox OS. I know today isnt a magic bullet but it makes committing memory mistakes a lot harder. Also rust gets first class status as the is standard library calls it and we can slowly get over the legacy of C.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What possible, fundamental, misunderstanding of the nature of the universe could make current academics look like flat earthers?
1·2 years agoYes, there may be an alternative answer. Just need to throw general relativity out of the window.
To be fair, future physics may indeed throw it away so there’s that.

6·2 years agoDark matter IS A THING. At least there is some thing out there that interacts weakly with the elctroweak force and interacts normally with gravity. We have plenty of evidence of it EXISTING. The problem of dark matter is we don’t know what it is… But sure as hell there is something. See the Bullet cluster if you don’t believe me. And if you are a bit physics savvy, you can understand that it’s evidence is imprinted in the CMB. We just don’t know what it is.
