Zu einer Atombombe gehört immer auch ein roter Knopf. Und da die EU keine gemeinsamen Streitkräfte und damit auch keinen Commander-in-Chief hat, stelle ich es mir schwer vor, eine gute Lösung für das Knopf-Drück-Recht zu finden.

Mittelfristig ist es daher wohl realistischer, dass Frankreich und UK ihr Arsenal, vielleicht durch finanzielle Unterstützung im Rahmen von bilateralen militärischen Abkommen mit anderen europäischen Staaten, erweitern und ggf. auch zu einer Art europäischem Schutzschirm ausbauen.

Baerbock und Habeck wären in der Rolle aber wenigstens sichtbar und würden sich für ihre Sicht der Dinge einsetzen. Scholz’ Philosophie des lautlosen Kanzlerns ist dagegen in dieser Krisenlage echt gefährlich. Aber das Volk kriegt halt, was es wollte. Scholz hat sich ja schon in den Kanzlerduellen und bei den CumEx-Anhörungen durch lautes Schweigen profiliert.

Maybe.

The “threat” here would entail no negative emotions, no human (or other) suffering, just… nothing. Plus, it sounds like if the universe were indeed unstable/meta-stable, there’s nothing we could change about it anyway. So of all the things I can worry about, I feel this deserves the least amount of worry.

Slightly off topic, but I’ve been wondering: Is the “a single member of the House can call a vote to remove the Speaker” rule still in effect, or did things go back to default after McCarthy’s removal?

Ich mein, bei jeder StuRa- oder AstA-Wahl gibt es die eine Partei, die Freibier und ne Achterbahn auf dem Campus verspricht, und jeder mit mehr als einem Semester auf dem Buckel versteht das als das zu interpretieren, was es ist: ein bisschen Spaß. Das Witzigste ist in diesem Fall aber, dass es anscheinend tatsächlich manche Leute für vorstellbar halten, dass die Uni Augsburg ganz offiziell Gloryholes installieren würde.

Nur auf die Umsetzung zu schauen, verzerrt das Bild aber auch, da Parteien in der Regel nicht alleine regieren und mit ihren Koalitionspartnern Kompromisse schließen müssen. Für ein wirklich ausgewogenes Bild muss man vergleichen, was versprochen wird und wofür und wie stark die Parteien dann bei der Koalitionsbildung und -führung kämpfen.

I get almost all literature for my papers from libgen and scihub. I even have access to a lot or journals through my uni’s VPN, but it’s just much simpler and quicker to use the open seas.

My justification is that a) scientific journal publishers are evil and a scourge on humankind, and b) on average, I only need like 1% of the info in such literature, so I would never buy it anyway, which means that me pirating it doesn’t affect sales in any way.

My wife and I have done several trips with our two kids (born 2018 and 2020) and have never checked in anything. It’s absolutely doable if you pack wisely.
