Honestly atp the censorship isn’t even the worst of it. Go to Lemmy.ml, say anything bad against China and see how it goes. Many Lemmy communities are no better.

No the worst of reddit is the fact that it’s a data-mining operation at this point, with age checks and a complete Mishandling of your user data (everything is indexed and easy to search even if you set your profile to private…)

Their ZCODE harness quite literally got caught zipping up people’s entire git trees and uploading them to alibaba servers. I have no qualms with Chinese ai but this specific company is on my blacklist.

That approach isn’t all sunshine and rainbows though, it’ll undercut local businesses (the few remaining ones), and without ID of Nyc residents non-nyc ppl could take advantage of these stores to resell the goods for a higher price…

I’m not sure how NYC is going to sustain the costs as well, more taxes? Capital flight will be a problem. Not a musk fan here, but there’s two faces to this coin.
