In which country are you located?
If you’re in the US, Hamstudy.org for the amateur bands, and if you plan to use the drone for hire (FAA Part 107), then you’d need to get a Part 107 certificate: https://www.faa.gov/uas/commercial_operators/become_a_drone_pilot#ftp.

Amateur Radio@sh.itjust.works•Technically, it didn't count as a SOTA :(
2·9 months agoGetting on air is what matters, POTA/SOTA are bonuses. Congrats!
This is the same tool @Ghost.org is (was?) using to bring federation to publishers using the Ghost platform.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People that went to Paris, what did you think of it?English
51·1 year agoI’ve been there a few times over the past decade. It’s a major metro city with substantial tourism. The people there are just like people anywhere else in the world in that if you treat them with respect, they will reflect that; and if you treat them like smug shit, they will also treat you like smug shit.
The semi-popular reputation Paris has is unearned and based in prejudice.

I am different from Washington; I have a higher, grander standard of principle. Washington could not lie. I can lie, but I won’t.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is there a word for “word or phrase that is fun to say”?English
4·1 year agoThis is the real value of agglutinative languages. We sort of try it in English but it doesn’t always work. I don’t speak German, but I recognize the word roots.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is it like to live in a an extreme climate area like Alaska? How os i different than the lower 48 States?English
6·1 year agoWhen I lived in central Alaska, I saw summertime temps of up to 90F (32C) and wintertime temps down to -55F (-48C).
Summer was amazing; endless sunlight. 23.5 hours during the Summer Solstice. Want to play sports at 2am in broad daylight? Easy.
Winter was also amazing, but with the serious understanding that venturing outside without the proper life safety equipment (proper cold weather gear and communication with someone about your whereabouts and route), you could die in about an hour. But those Auroras… a stunning, and gorgeous midnight sentinel dancing above your head—absolutely worth it.
I miss it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What life hack is so simple yet so effective, you're shocked more people don't know about it?English
19·1 year agoYou know the pop culture reference we use for someone who has misplaced their cellphone, “have you tried calling it?”
This will sound absolutely silly, but one day a friend was looking for some trinket which wasn’t a phone, and playfully I asked, “Have you tried calling it?”
They doubled down and started actually calling it, “Trinket… trinket, where are you?”
And wouldn’t you know it, within minutes they found it, and so far this has worked about 99.9% of the time.
So like using a flashlight focuses your eyes, having someone call it out loud kind of quiets the mind, too. It’s wild.
One of the best no-noise locations I ever did was in a fully powered-down sailboat in the southern lagoon at Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas. Leaky consumer electronics are the worst.
To contrast, I managed to work Indonesia from Alamogordo NM despite being in a residential neighborhood, HVAC capacitors and foreign over-the-horizon-radar (OTHR) be damned. Taught me a lot about being patient and picking out transmissions in the noise.
