Sam Bankman-Fried, the former crypto mogul who was convicted of defrauding investors by secretly diverting billions of dollars of their money, asked the Supreme Court on Thursday for a new trial and to throw out a court order requiring him to pay $11 billion as part of his sentence.
That every rich asshole has a direct line to Supreme Court appeals is its own problem
Aaw, poor Sam… The fat orange pedo didn’t pardon him so he’s reaching for the next corrupt fash-bash down the street.
How does this even involve SCOTUS?
Well, in theory anybody is allowed to petition the Supreme Court to arbitrate their case if they feel all the lower courts they where dealt with below it did them wrong, and the Supreme Court reviews the case and decides to take it or not.
In theory.
In practice, the court’s clerks will not even read your petition unless your case is exceptionally complex, very public, you’re a billionaire or you’re an orange fascist dementia patient.
The clerks like motor coaches too
It’s like we finally get one of these creeps and they keep popping back up again. Money really is a blight.
I’m honestly surprised he and his legal team thinks he has a chance.
Have you seen the supreme court? He does have a chance. Of course the fact that he’s not in the supreme leader’s favor counts against him, but if he’s got any money left a little donation to Clarence has worthwhile odds of sorting him out.
It doesn’t cost anything to try. If I was sentenced to 25 years in the slammer and $11bn in restitution, I’d try anything to lighten the sentence.
Or I’d off myself, because I’d be mortified with shame in his place. But I’m not a criminal.
It’s surprising to me that folks here hate on SBF but champion Luigi.
Both were giving rich assholes what they deserved.
If SBF had stolen the rich to give to the poor rather than to himself, I’d be more inclined to like him.
I think that was what he was doing, no?
Wasn’t he a big part of the Effective Altruism movement?
Easy. SBF robbed rich fucks, and they stole from us to recoup it. Luigi didn’t leave downstream issues.
