This is the full context of the quote for anyone curious like I was.
TLDW is that he follows saying he prefers sympathy over empathy

I see it as every employee walmart has to hire and pay to solve this problem is a local and the money will be saved and spent locally, not automatically going to be another drop in some CEO’s bucket.
The best choice is to shop local in the first place but some places don’t have that luxury. And who knows if enough local money builds up people might open their own businesses

But yeah it’s nice to see people encouraged to do in house innovation! The military can have a ton of red tape and people that would rather have you embrace the suck than reduce the suck because it’s less work (for them). Imagine the BMV running everything and you get the idea lol

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Has anyone tried any 3d scanning solutions?English
6·2 years agoNothing comprehensive but the weapon holster company Trex Arms has a video review of the Einscan-SP that is like 5 years old.
Now I get that’s not super helpful but the interesting part is that they scanned a ton of handguns with combinations of optics, lights etc to make their holsters. They found out how tedious of a process it was so they made the files open source. So you can see the quality you’ll expect when you compare spec sheets to other stuff

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•At the D-Day ceremony in France, a WWII veteran tried to kiss Zelenskyy's hand, but he knelt down to the vet and thanked him for saving Europe.English
46·2 years agoI get that in political office everything in the public eye is a sort of show. What clothes you wear, how you handle yourself, the speeches etc.
So I get that to some people anything a politician does is purely for their own benefit. Nobody wants to look bad of course. But to me this seemed more genuine than most.
And just imagine what was going through the mind of that veteran! You do your part when you were young, filling out the forms, standing in the lines, training. Probably having doubts that they would make it out in one piece. Then decades later being thanked in person by a leader from the generations of children that didn’t even exist in the world you fought for, but who also understands the realities and tolls of conventional war at an individual level. It’s got to be surreal.
The train of thought he talked about right when he said that was that in the past politicians said they feel your pain, even if they are an opponent. Now politicians try to make the case that people aren’t in pain.
In that comparison I linked one of the differences is sympathy is feeling pain as your own and another is acknowledging pain without feeling it at all.
I’m not saying I agree with his take, but context made the quote made me go from “this guy doesn’t care about others at all” to “grammar police sidenote where he wants people to say sympathy more” in my head
Context is important and I never heard or watched him at all so I wanted to share for people who were interested like I was.
