361·2 months agoNot looking good at all. According to yesterday’s Guardian, negotiations are futile:
“The calamitous collapse of trade negotiations between Canada and the United States is a warning to nations worldwide that pursuing any kind of dialogue with the current US administration is doomed at the outset, according to observers who say this recent episode indicates seeking a fair deal is futile.”

1·2 months agoThe difference between the two rates does kind of illustrate why there are German objections to Eurobonds.
How so, could you elaborate how you see euro bonds working?
Imo, the inverse is equally true. Ergo, an avarage lower interest rate could benefit more countries and people But it’s only true when there is a solid EU fiscal/monetary policy in place. If not, then your rationale holds, I’d think.
According to this article the kill zone is about 50 deep by 1200 km long. And I’ve heard from other report maybe even 50 to 80 km deep. That’s impressive and frightening at the same time.

22·3 months agoSlavery is outlawed in all cases EXCEPT as punishment for crimes committed.
Imo that’s quite fucked up. Then wiki says;
" The Thirteenth Amendment exempts penal labor from its prohibition of forced labor. This allows prisoners who have been convicted of crimes (not those merely awaiting trial) to be required to perform labor or else face punishment while in custody."
Basically legal slavery is still existing in the US.

Good in-depth article. Tnx. Seems he’s a bottom-up reformer, hands on kind of guy. Sort of a Federov type, but with much more real battle experience ofc.

423·3 months agoRegional Powers like Brazil, India, China and the EU are moving away from Swift which is under US majority control , and/or the US owned Mastercard/Visa system ( #E):
“The rise of “sovereign” systems, especially in Europe, a big source of Visa’s and Mastercard’s international business, could erode their enviable operating margins of over 50%. In their latest annual reports, both companies brought up “preferential” treatment of domestic payments systems as a risk to business. That may be one reason why investors have lately been lukewarm about the two giants, despite healthy earnings. After a sustained climb starting in 2023, their share prices have declined in the past year (see chart).”

Used to be Polish (far-right) state TV propaganda. But some years ago, Polish PM Donald Tusk cleansed all state media and it should be ok now.

Good news. Yet, the annual deforestation rate is still a bit lower than the previous record low by 1,236 sq km, equivalent to an area the size of Rio de Janeiro.
