I mentioned today to my mother, a lifelong Democrat and Union member not at all a trump fan. That the east wing of the whitehouse had been demolished. And she replied incredulously shocked “really?!”. Yeah, like a year ago. And it’s not like they don’t watch the news or get information generally. It’s just the news in general is a failure.

Sometimes you have to Ally with someone else you would normally be against just to make sure the worst possible person doesn’t succeed. That is, if you hope to accomplish anything. Otherwise it’s just empty virtue signaling here.
Gerrymandering and rigging is rampant. If voting was made equitable and accessible across the state. Things would be quite a bit different. Up here in the Northland of Kansas city. The polling places are often well staffed with plenty of places to vote. If you go down south Staffing gets a lot sketchier and the amount of places to vote goes down while the amount of people using those fewer places goes up. It’s All By Design. Meanwhile rural areas you just wander in any time of day you want to go vote there’s almost never a wait.
Yeah was sad to hear about Bush losing to Bell again. Had I been in the district I would have voted for her. KC gets enough shit from the ignorant led poisoned rural areas. And that’s still nothing compared to the BS STL has to deal with.
Yeah, it makes for a simple effective slogan. Unfortunately the neoliberals specifically are the big flaw in it. As they openly won’t. There needs to be a simple catchy way to convey voting against Republicans in the most effective way possible. Which often but not always would be voting blue.
Get ready for Olympic level mental gymnastics. I hope to be proven wrong but right now I can’t help but see the acceptance as a facade. I fully expect to see lack of support and possibly even open sabotage by national party leadership. But these candidates in many cases have already overcome massive corporate spending against them. El Sayed between AIPAC and other corporate opposition had nearly 20 times more money spent campaigning against him than his campaign even collected. They didn’t even spend all they took in yet. So that might give us some hope.
There historically has been a lot of reluctance to. And there was a lot of dirty campaigning in the primaries. Like what you’d expect in the general normally. Not to mention there’s been a lot of baseless neoliberal pearl clutching, not strictly related to this in particular that’s already getting ugly. It was never a given they would concede magnanimously. But so far it seems they have. Which is good. Hopefully the sooner people like James Carville or Bill Maher switch their registrations to Republican. The situation will only improve.
We’re officially on the decline. A laughing stock to our enemies and a pariah to our allies. Even if the American people pull off a miracle somehow in 2028 and elect someone like Ocasio Cortez to the presidency. No one in Europe should just forgive everything and get all buddy buddy with us again. We’ve only shown we cannot be trusted. I was going to ask for a source on this. But on checking in on a comment or two in this thread. This explains a lot of the consistently inconsistent behavior I’ve been seeing the few times I do check lemvotes. Like I was wondering who the hell was down voting Jo, as they are always pretty chill and even keeled. Look at any other comments on the thread no problem. I look up anyone from Lemmy.ml and it’s 404.
That’s certainly not the behavior of an instance with nothing to hide. Though I would still think administrators should be able to see the votes and identity brigading. But this does explain a few things I’ve noticed on isolated instances when I’ve used it.
Under normal circumstances I’d agree. Under these circumstances it was a failure still.
While I agree they aren’t far left. They are sincerely more socialist than the Nazis were. The problem is, they are often as authoritarian as and group think vulnerable as maga, nazis, etc. Economics is fine. But it should never supersede or dictate social policy.
And all these heavily centralized States weather corporate or otherwise always fall to the same flaws. Power calcifying and protecting itself. Not the people or Society.
Unfortunately too little too late and Biden was too afraid to push it. Politics for far too long has been run on a gentleman’s agreement. That one side has clearly not been honoring.
Complexity is one thing. Merrick Garland not even attempting is another. I could be understanding of the complexity if they had even behaved as if it was serous or important. They didn’t. And their failure to take it seriously along with the media’s failure led to this.
There’s absolutely a lot of that to be sure.
I don’t know, if you ask me Biden’s failure to prosecute Trump seems like a prime failure of action. One of far far too many. Which really goes to the core of the problem with current Democrat leadership. Promise very little deliver even less.
Not going to argue that the people that switched from Harris to Trump because of all the hubbub weren’t fools. They certainly were. But they and the Bernie to Trump people are far more common and representative than informed educated voters.
As opposed to Democrats who don’t even try to run or often lose them themselves? AOC is the likely candidate they will endorse in 28. And she is a democrat. You really should give them a chance and try not to be so irrationally afraid of them. Unlike the Democrats they actually have policies and agenda that most people Democrat and otherwise like if you talk to them about it neutrally. Can’t worry about the screaming McCarthyites. The screaming mccarthyites are going to scream communist no matter who gets nominated. And I think we all would like to have someone who stands for something unlike Harris who stands for nothing.
Well lemmy.world is statistically one of the larger instances. So that’s not strictly unusual. And thankfully some of the worst from ml tend to stay in their Echo Chambers being self-aware enough.
I agree. And was vocal as well with some of rimu’s actions as well as the recent admiral patric meltdown. The dot world crew aren’t perfect. There was a post earlier today regarding a mastodon ban. That I’m not sure of knowledgeable enough to take sides on. Though generally they are pretty hands-off unless you cross one of the more or less reasonable hard and fast rules repeatedly.
Yeah and I’m not exactly sure what to do about it. Where to tell your average person where to get their information from right now. Definitely none of these mainstream corporate owned outlets. Unfortunately I really don’t know of anything too similar to suggest as a substitute often. A lot of stuff I watch the people are half my age. So even a lot of people my age wouldn’t be crazy about that in the first place. Let alone even older friends and family. There’s a few things like breaking points with Crystal ball. She’s generally decent even if her co-host is pretty trash. But outside of that it’s pretty tough. I enjoy her husband’s content as well. But yeah that’s going to be too abrasive for a lot of older people the way he talks. Which is stupid but it’s still a fact.
