  • im not missing the point of ‘blame the Palestinian genocide on netanyahu.’ im intentionally dismissing that point, after considering the merits presented. i decline the opportunity to ignore the broad social support within israel for the genocide in the name of “pettyfogging semantics” forsooth; words have meanings. (edit: and not incidentally, with which words’ meaning do you say i am playing semantics?)

editing your comment to state your intention not to bother replying doesn’t count as not bothering replying.

  • genocidal ethnic cleansing has been going on since the ‘founding’ of israel. if you say “hitler did the holocaust,” that’s true but not the complete truth, it misses all those key supporters who enthusiastically participated and without whose support the holocaust could not have taken place. placing the responsibility for a campaign of genocide enacted and supported by the political will of an entire nation onto the shoulders of a single scapegoat robs people of their agency and thereby tends to legitimize “just following bibi’s orders” as a defense. you didn’t mean to “perfect is the enemy of good” your way into the nuremburg defense did you? surely you must have had another direction in mind for scapegoating an entire genocide.

edit: also I’m pretty sure my aphorism was novel, or at least rare, not trite. see if you can come up with where it’s been said before since you say it’s trite. i tried.

edit: i found it. “a king does not enact his own will” is basically a summary of this video. pretty sure that’s where i got it. you decide if it’s trite.

  • everyone’s been doing it since the idea came around because it’s not illegal, and it’s not illegal because the people making the laws are the people benefitting from the practice. it’s true of democrats and republicans in america, but only democrats to my knowledge have a history of attempting and in some cases (notably, california) actually succeeding in getting independent redistricting comittees to make this form of cheating illegal. here, check the proposed bill out directly:

    https://legiscan.com/CA/text/ACA15/2025

notably, the bill will only take effect if other states attempt to gain an unfair advantage over them; it’s only retaliatory. Also, california could redistrict every republican district but one or two in the state but has carefully chosen to only cheat the exact same 5 seats texas cheated; it’s directly proportional. finally, the bill includes a sunset feature that will automatically revert to the fair redistricting comittee in 2031. California’s retaliatory gerrymandering simply does not reflect badly on democrats as you seem to believe, incompetent cowards though they may in general be. and that’s a fucking problem. If anything, them acknowledging that they could cheat harder but are “taking the high road” by only cheating 5 seats is the real fuck up here honestly. If you’re going to cheat because the other guy is cheating, cheat better than the other guy ffs.

  • how the fuck are you gonna tell a bunch of texas democrats to get out and fight even harder against even more overwhelming gerrymandering when their supposed representatives allowed this to happen by giving up their quorum break? all that performative bullshit at the capitol “uuhh, am i gonna be arrested?” Yeah lady, the court and the congress and their police goons are agreed in their illegal conspiracy to defraud you of your voice and you walked into their fucking hands after they told you what their plan was. She thought, she actually fucking thought she was gonna get something done, raise some sort of alarm or awareness or give the democrats some sort of legal position from which to fight back. And now the maps are passed, because she enabled the use of her position and authority as a pawn for the opposite side instead of refusing to play the game she knew, god and all these witnesses know, is fucking rigged.
